Description
SALARY $33.092 - $47.274 POSITION SUMMARY Coordinates daily operations of personnel conducting quality control inspections of procured materials, components, and services. Ensures items purchased are in compliance with engineering drawings, detailed specifications, and various industry standards in terms of application, reliability, safety, and cost.
Qualifications
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Coordinates the activities of personnel involved in the performance of inspections of the parts, components, materials, and services that are purchased by the CTA.
- Reviews failed inspections with the inspector and discusses the reasons for rejection with the vendor. Works with vendors to develop quality programs that will better meet the CTA's quality assurance requirements.
- Prepares periodic reports on all inspections completed by the section for review by management. Analyzes the ratio of rejections versus inspections performed. Interprets the collected data to establish vendor performance information, staff productivity information, frequency of like shipment data, etc.
- Plans and attends meetings with user departments to ensure that quality requirements as outlined are adequate and proper.
- Establishes the need, design, and acquisition of tools, gauges, fixtures, etc. that are required to facilitate the inspection of parts and components. Establishes and maintains a tool and gauge calibration and repair program.
- Provides training and assistance to less experienced inspectors within the section. Plans and schedules work for inspectors in order to meet deadlines. Sets priorities when appropriate.
- Notifies the manager of any deviations from prescribed policies to ensure that corrective action measures are identified. Coordinates activities to verify that the recommended corrective actions are completed.
- Assists the manager in development and administration of departmental programs, policies, goals, and objectives.
- Trains, develops, monitors, and evaluates staff. Reviews and recommends personnel actions for approval.

CHALLENGES
- Coordination of the sharing of manufacturer information between applicable bus, rail, and facilities technical services and procurement departments.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, or a related field, plus two (2) years of experience with quality control and quality assurance programs, or an equivalent combination of education and experience relating to this position.
- PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Requires sitting for extended periods of time, standing, visual acumen, manual dexterity, and fingering for working with computer keyboards.
- Required to lift up to fifty (50) pounds.
- Walking and bending.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Detailed knowledge of various inspection tools and their use.
- Detailed knowledge of manufacturing processes, quality control, inspection, and testing.
- Working knowledge of acceptance sampling plans and lot sampling procedures.
- Intermediate computer skills.
- Strong analytical skills necessary for quality analysis and evaluation.
- Strong data collection, analysis, and presentation skills.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to read and interpret specifications and engineering drawings.
- Ability to competently coordinate the activities of assigned personnel.
- Ability to become familiar with and use CTA's inventory management and control software.
- Ability to lead effectively in a team environment.
- Ability to coach and mentor personnel.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- General office environment.
- Usual shop and inspections working conditions.
- May be required to travel in order to meet with vendors and other outside contacts.
EQUIPMENT, TOOLS, AND MATERIALS UTILIZED
- Standard office equipment.
- Personal computer and related software, including CTA Enterprise Resource Planning software, various database, and computer aided drafting software programs.
- CTA specifications and engineering drawings.
- All customary and usual inspection tools, fixtures, and gages.
- Various catalogs, technical publications and reference materials.
Additional Details
