Job Description
Technical Design Global Account Manager, R.R. Donnelley & Sons Company, Santa Clara, CA. Serve as primary design contact for key client for new product design and revisions due to evolving performance or compliance needs.
- Design, develop, and execute packaging and oversee vendor performance including early concepts, design iterations, prototype development, and data/performance testing.
- Craft solutions ensuring compatibility with product protection, sustainability, and production efficiency to maintain client requirements.
- Evaluate vendor designs, samples, and data to gauge ramp readiness and troubleshoot obstacles to ramp from design and manufacturing perspectives.
- Maintain detailed records of design iterations, including the material selection, drawing version with all detail DFM solutions.
- Create prototype ideas to improve customer experience, cost, and reliability to drive initiatives.
- Drive manufacturing feedback to improve packaging robustness, support new product introduction, and optimize the supply chain.
- Design detailed engineering drawings and specifications for solutions.
- Conduct tolerance analysis to statistically analyze data to provide technical recommendations, and risk assessments.
- Collaborate with product design engineers and industrial designers on new product introduction and sustaining projects to develop solutions that meet cosmetic, compliance, and branding standards. Troubleshoot existing problems involving designs, materials, processes, and provide creative cost-effective solutions.
- Train and work daily with an offshore team in India and China to execute detailed engineering design job, oversee their performance and production quality.
- Stay up to date on latest manufacturing methods and equipment through site visits. Establish SOPs to standardize processes for solutions, ensuring accuracy, and compliance.
- Host/train RRD Asia designers/ engineers who participate in RRD Packaging Design exchange program.
- Oversee and execute Compliance and Design driven Change Management, including design, and project management of downstream execution through systems such as Agile and successful execution by vendors.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree, or foreign equivalent degree, in Packaging, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field and five (5) years of post-bachelor's, progressive, related work experience. Requires five (5) years of experience with the following: - Structural design and Mechanical design for packaging engineering, with fiber-based material such as paper, grey board, molded fiber, corrugated, and rigid box; and
- High Precision Consumer Electronics packaging and precision prototyping using Cutting Table; and
- Utilizing software such as ArtiosCAD (2D&3D) and TOP/CAPE; and
- Proficiency with Adobe Illustrator and 3D Printing
Requires Minimum of one (1) year of experience with the following:
- Expertise with parametric design of consumer electronic packaging in 3D NX Software, including GD&T, FAI/CPK, and tolerance stack up analysis;
- Using a Zund Digital Cutting Table including v-grooving capabilities;
- Tableau Desktop software for data analysis;
- Utilizing Teamcenter and Agile; and
- Conducting drop test and ISTA testing standards.
Requires minimum of two (2) years of experience working with cross cultural and multilingual teams. Must be available for daily flexible schedule of engaging with US clients during US afternoon and executing with project teams in India and China in the evening. Ability to lift up to thirty (30) pounds to assist with receiving in materials for design center. Up to 25% domestic and international travel required.

RRD's current salary for this role is $163,571/year. The salary range may be adjusted based on the applicable geographic location of the hired employee, and the range may change in the future.At RRD, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions may vary based upon, but not limited to education, skills, experience, proficiency, performance, shift and location. Depending on the role, in addition to base salary, the total compensation package may also include participation in a bonus, commission or incentive program.
