Emergency Medicine RESIDENT

Responsibilities

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Emergency Medicine Resident will be responsible for delivering comprehensive emergency care to patients under the supervision and guidance of attending physicians. This position is designed to meet the educational requirements set by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) while gaining practical experience in diagnosing, treating, and managing acute and critical conditions in a diverse patient population.


Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Demonstrates a strong commitment for Emergency Medicine and the ability to perform under pressure in high-stakes environments, effectively managing acute and critical care situations with prompt decision-making and coordination with the emergency medicine team.
  • Engages in the clinical assessment and management of patients across various care settings, ensuring frequent interaction to develop the competencies required by their specialty, under the direct supervision of attending physicians. Residents are permitted to write orders and progress notes in patient charts, but attending physicians maintain ultimate responsibility for patient care and must review all resident-provided care.
  • Executes procedures as specified by the program director, under the direct supervision of attending physicians. Residents are authorized to perform only those procedures for which the attending physician holds privileges. Upon demonstrating competence in the requisite number of procedures, the program director will certify the resident to perform the procedure independently.
  • Gradually assumes increased responsibility for patient care activities based on their educational level, skills, and experience. The program director and attending staff will assess and determine the resident's level of responsibility and autonomy.
  • Maintains effective communication with supervising attending physicians regarding evaluation findings, physical examination results, diagnostic test interpretations, and planned interventions on an ongoing basis.
  • Actively participates in the educational and scholarly activities of the program, including taking on teaching and supervisory roles for other residents and students as required.
  • Engages in relevant institutional committees and councils that impact their education and patient care, including quality assurance and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Develops a personalized learning plan to promote continuous professional growth, with guidance from the teaching staff.
  • Complies with all hospital policies and procedures, including the provisions of GME, and the residency training program.

EDUCATION / LICENSURE:

  • Graduation from an accredited medical school.
  • Successful completion of USMLE or COMLEX examinations.
  • Eligibility for medical licensure in the state of practice.
