Watts is seeking an experienced CNC Machinist to join our team in St. Pauls, NC. You will set up and operate conventional, special purpose, and numerical control (NC) machines and machining centers to fabricate metallic and nonmetallic parts by performing the following duties.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Routine housekeeping 5-S activities.
  • Load and unload parts to and from machines, jigs, or fixtures while checking castings or components for flaws or discrepancies in raw materials or from prior operations.
  • Must complete in-process inspection on components being produced, along with necessary SPC charting to document continuous process control.
  • Completion of production records such as recap cards and pan tickets. This includes use of gages and precision measuring equipment.
  • Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished workpiece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
  • Measures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference points on material or workpiece as guides for subsequent machining.
  • Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as mills, lathes, jig borers, grinders, and shapers.
  • Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media.
  • Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and adjusts machine controls or control media as required.
  • Verifies conformance of finished workpiece to specifications.
  • Sets up and operates machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data.
  • Fits and assembles parts into complete assembly. Verifies dimensions and alignment of assembly.
  • Installs machined replacement parts in mechanisms, machines, and equipment, and tests operation of unit to ensure functionality and performance. Operates welding equipment to cut or weld parts.
  • Confers with engineers, production personnel, programmers, or others to resolve machining or assembly problems.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); Machinist Certification and/or a minimum of 5 years of Machinist experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
  • Ability to use gages and precision measuring equipment.
  • Prior experience required.
  • G-code and M-code, basic edits.
  • HMC (Horizontal milling centers).
  • Understand work coordinates.
  • Must be able to use and read properlyscales,dial caliper, micrometers, and other fine scale measuring devices.
  • Attention to detail.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, talk, and/or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, sit, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
