Description

As a Medical Science Liaison (MSL) Lead with bioMerieux, you will play an important role in fostering relationships with internal and external stakeholders in your designated geographical area. This is a multifaceted role that combines scientific expertise, field medical affairs responsibilities, people and team management.Your position oversees an area team of field-based Medical Science Liaisons (MSL) who support bioMerieux Microbiology, Molecular, and Immunoassay portfolios. Medical Science Liaison and Lead responsibilities include engaging with leading experts in the field to develop and maintain peer-to-peer relationships with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs), and Healthcare Providers (HCPs) in areas relevant to infectious diseases and diagnostics. This role is key in providing scientific and clinical expertise on diagnostic products to internal and external stakeholders.

You will lead and mentor a regional team of MSLs, providing guidance on scientific engagement, medical education, insights gathering, and professional development. You will support your team to develop and implement strategic individual plans aligned with US and Global medical affairs objectives. MSL Lead is committed to successful area execution of field tactics as outlined by US Medical Affairs strategic planning process and is responsible for aggregating and communicating area activity and insights to demonstrate alignment with strategic plan. As a regional leader within the US Medical Affairs organization, the MSL Lead collaborates regularly with cross-functional teams, including leadership from field sales, marketing, global medical affairs, customer support teams, and other functions within US Medical Affairs.

Primary Duties

KOL Engagement & Relationship Building

  • Develop and maintain a strong, collaborative network of relationships with KOLs, HCPs, and key stakeholders in your Area.

  • Mentor and develop area MSL team in competencies to build a network of KOLs and HCPs

  • Report regularly on KOL development progress for the designated geographic area

  • Cultivate partnerships with thought leaders to support the company's medical strategy and therapeutic objectives and mentor area team in the development of key partnerships

  • Engage in ongoing scientific discussions to share relevant data and insights, fostering trust and facilitating mutual understanding with internal and external stakeholders

Medical Education & Scientific Presentations

  • Present scientific information on bioMerieux products and therapeutic areas, in alignment with the company's strategic priorities, to internal and external audiences

  • Coordinate team MSL activities across assigned geographic designation in alignment with strategic priorities

  • Mentor and coach new and current team members in territory management, delivery of scientific presentations, and strategic delivery of medical education to regional stakeholders in alignment with medical plans

Insights Gathering & Reporting

  • Collect and analyze insights from team across designated geographic region to inform internal strategic direction

  • Provide detailed feedback to medical affairs leadership on area trends, impactful findings, and evidence gaps as identified through regional team insight-gathering activities

  • Collaborate with other regional MSL Leads to understand, interpret, and relay field insights to key internal stakeholders

  • Coach and mentor a team of MSLs to effectively gather insights as outlined in individual medical plans, and in alignment with US and Global medical objectives

Scientific Literature Review & Evidence-Based Information

  • Stay up to date with the latest research and scientific publications in relevant disease areas.

  • Review and interpret scientific data to effectively communicate product and disease state information to internal teams and external stakeholders.

  • Coach and develop team to effectively appraise and interpret scientific literature, including the development of Sr. MSLs who serve as key peer mentors for junior MSL team members

Regional Conference Engagement

  • Support strategic plan to Identify and designate area team attendance at relevant regional medical and scientific conferences within your assigned geographic area, to network with KOLs, gather insights, and share bioMerieux's latest advancements.

  • Utilize these opportunities to strengthen relationships and stay informed about emerging trends in the medical field.

Collaboration with Internal Teams

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams (e.g., U.S. and Global Medical Affairs, Sales, Marketing, CSO, Regulatory Affairs) to align on company goals and share insights that impact strategic direction.

  • Actively participate and mentor team members' participation in integrated medical teams, and foster effective communication between integrated teams and area MSL team

  • Ensure alignment and execution of priority tactics outlined in integrated medical planning

  • MSL lead has a demonstrated ability to understand the needs and trends of a geographic area

Team Leadership Responsibilities

  • Recruit and onboard new team members within a designated geographic area, to align with regional medical and business needs

  • Conduct performance assessments throughout the year and address concerns in partnership with the Associate Director and Human Resources Business Partner

  • Collaborate with other area MSL and Product Leads as well as Medical Education and Training manager to support new hire training pathway

  • Ensure ongoing competency and compliance with team field medical affairs activities, as assessed through field ride-alongs, coaching, and auding of CRM activity

  • Work with team members to identify professional development plans

  • Model compliance with bioMerieux's professional standards and ethical decision-making practices

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Complete necessary administrative tasks, including expense reporting, internal training, vendor credentialing, data entry and review, and maintain accurate records

  • Maintain administrative oversight of area MSL team to ensure timely and compliant completion of expense reports, internal training, CRM documentation, and other administrative requirements

  • Ensure team complies with and follows all regulatory and company-specific guidelines when documenting insights, providing scientific information, and submitting reports.

Tools & Technology Proficiency

  • Demonstrate proficiency with relevant tools and software such as CRM, Microsoft Office, i.e., Teams, PowerPoint, One Note, Word, Excel, Outlook, etc

Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field required. Advanced degree (PhD, PharmD, NP, PA, MS/MLS/DCLS, or MD/DO, or similar) in life sciences or a related field is preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in a relevant clinical or laboratory setting (inclusive of fellowship/residency experience), or 2+ years of relevant clinical or industry experience with demonstrated progressive leadership responsibilities

  • Prior relevant MSL or field medical affairs experience, including demonstrated success in HCP and KOL engagement, provision of field-based medical education activities, and scientific engagement with a focus on insights gathering is strongly desired

  • Deep scientific and clinical knowledge in the field of diagnostics. Knowledge of the infectious disease diagnostics market preferred.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire teams, with a keen analytical and strategic mindset

  • Knowledge and understanding of the regional health system landscape is desired

  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with KOLs and internal/ external stakeholders.

  • Analytical mindset with the ability to gather and synthesize scientific and clinical insights across a region or team
