Your Opportunity

The Veterinarian Research Intern is responsible for leading a veterinary intern research project.

Core Responsibilities
  • Understand and follow company animal welfare, husbandry, and biosecurity requirements

  • Strong desire to learn and apply research techniques

  • Work closely with others on day-to-day tasks

  • Strong time management skills, organizational skills, and attention to detail

  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of projects

  • Design, manage, implement, and summarize a research project with live animal work - Collect and record data for live animal tasks

  • Participate in all research projects, training sessions, and meetings

  • Assist with all clinical, hands-on live animal work

  • Prepare an abstract and poster or oral presentation for the American Association of Swine Veterinarians (AASV) Student Seminar competition and attend the annual conference if selected to compete

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Required current enrollment as a United States Veterinary Student in an accredited college or university

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Pre-employment physical and drug screen

  • Current and valid driver's license with acceptable MVR

  • Proven working knowledge of Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

  • Must be available for occasional travel

  • Must be available to work nights and weekends when necessary

  • Must understand that the Smithfield is a producer of high-quality pork for human consumption and must be supportive of the mission of raising swine for meat.

  • Ability to work well with others in fast paced, dynamic environment.

  • Ability to be respectful, approachable and team oriented while building strong working relationships and a positive work environment.
