Reimagine What's Possible We are seeking an Instrument/Controls Technician working for the Engineering Manager and closely with the Commissioning team, Operations, and Technical Management is responsible for coordinating, organizing, and executing of mechanical activities for the pre commissioning, commissioning, and startup for new and refurbished facilities, with the aim of ensuring the systems are installed and properly commissioned ensuring plant reliability and availability is maintained per design, in line with business needs for facilities which range across multiple technologies such as Air Separation (ASU), Steam Methane reformer (HYCO), Partial Oxidation (POX), Ammonia, H2 Electrolysis, and CO2, along with ancillary equipment to support the facility. The Instrument & Controls Technician, is responsible for providing pre-commissioning, commissioning, and startup support, maintaining safe, reliable, and efficient preparation for the operation of the Instrument & Controls systems in the facility as well as executing preventative and corrective maintenance activities for all site low voltage Instrument & Controls equipment as required during the commissioning and startup phase of the project. The position will work closely with internal and external resources and ensure the scope of work is executed in a safely and reliably.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
Provide & maintain a safe work environment. Demonstrate leadership with all company & industry safe work processes to prevent all injuries. Execute hands on Instrument & Controls commissioning and startup related activities for troubleshooting, maintenance, repair, and test activities. Provide Instrument & Controls support during the commissioning of the plants. Maintain accurate document control and monitor quality assurance initiatives to maintain the history going forward. Provide Instrument & Controls commissioning and startup leadership to ensure safety, reliability and maintainability of the Instrument & Controls equipment Responsible for executing Critical Safety Circuit (CSS) validations for the units being commissioned. Execute the Inspection Test Report work process (ITR's) using a 'completions' tool to track punch items and progress Ensure the safety of all personnel onsite by utilizing the Air Products Basic Safety Practice program, which includes Safety Work Permits, LOTO, Confined Space, etc. The position is a key member in building the Air Products safety culture to the site team. Understand Environmental Regulatory requirements Support Instrument & Controls construction and commissioning activities Ensure Air Products standards, and best practices for EH&S, productivity, reliability, quality, and overall customer services are met Monitor and execute preventative and corrective maintenance activities pertaining to the commissioning of Instrument & Controls equipment, to ensure safety and reliability targets are achieved Maintain equipment commissioning document integrity through accurate technical reports Supervise and assist Instrument & Controls contractors with all site related activities assigned to them, insuring the safety and reliability philosophy is followed Working with the commissioning and engineering teams understand issues at hand and execute cost effective solutions for resolution to meet the project's objectives on safety, reliability, product quality, and flexibility on product supply Facilitate attainment of operations excellence and customer satisfaction via commissioning productivity, reliability, quality, and cost reduction efforts Provide Instrument & Controls commissioning support and participate in incident investigations and Root Cause Analysis. Identify & implement sustainable corrective action(s) Strong organizational, planning, and interpersonal and communication skills are essential to the position. Credibility and respect across the organization is important. The incumbent works closely with the commissioning team and engineering to insure alignment with Project objectives.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
A 2-year diploma in Instrument & Controls Engineering or a trade or technical degree in the related field. 10 years' minimum hands-on Instrument & Controls technician experience in gas, petrochemical, or related industries in. Air Separation, HYCO (SMR and POX), Ammonia and CO2 facility commissioning a plus Demonstrated technical and practical problem-solving skills with a good business sense in the maintenance field Demonstrated leadership, interpersonal and teamwork skills, and decision-making skills with the ability to communicate clearly and effectively Strong oral and written skills with the ability to communicate commissioning activities to the Commissioning management team daily Knowledge of computer-based applications (Microsoft Office) and a working knowledge of Completions / Turnover package systems a plus Ability to read single line drawings, P&IDs, ladder logic, wiring schematics, and other technical documentation. Hands-on knowledge of the construction and commissioning tools, including but not limited to the following:
Process plant instrumentation of various types (e.g. pressure, temperature, flow, level, vibration measurement and transmission systems) Effectively use typical test and calibration equipment, including pneumatic calibrators, RTD calibrators, mA calibrators, T/C calibrators, digital and analog multi-meters, meggers, and laptops for equipment communication Control systems such as DCS and PLCs (Siemens experience a plus) Analyzers of various types (Teledyne, ABB GC's, Servomex, ABB (H&B)) Control and switch valves with associated actuating systems Fabrication, wiring and hook up experience of Instrumentation and Instrument & Controls equipment Troubleshoot and repair 480 - 13.8 KV 3 phase motor controls and 120 VAC control circuits. Large and small synchronous and induction motors Field Application Panels for synchronous motors High voltage and low voltage relays Transformers; Gas circuit breakers; Solenoids; Limit & Proximity Switches Experience with inspection repair, installation trouble shooting, and modification of induction & synchronous motors Experience with transformers, high and low voltage switch gear, protective relays, generators, and distribution systems Knowledgeable in IT infrastructure and able to troubleshoot and communicate level 1 and level 2 issues Must have experience in commissioning and startup support, project work, plant operations and maintenance efforts Proficiency in English speaking and writing Knowledge and understanding of local environmental and health and safety requirements Knowledge of vendor contracts and knowledge of shop support in the region is desirable Regional travel 70% per year including on-site assignments with potential Global travel Valid Driver's License
