TMG's Controller is responsible for providing the external accounting and regulatory side of the
company, along with working closely with TMG's Director of Financial Management and other business
unit leaders, as necessary, to assure that TMG's accounting is efficient, effective, and aligned
with the needs of all stakeholders. Responsibilities include development, operation, and control of
the financial operations of the company, including accounting, budgeting, forecasting, reporting,
and analysis. The Controller is expected to have a working knowledge of cost-to-cost based accrual
accounting principles as they directly relate to the operations of a commercial/institutional
construction company. Able and willing to perform all of the hands-on aspects of the position as
well as being capable of progressively delegating, managing, and leading the production of
accounting information through subordinates and others within the organization.
Controller Responsibilities
* Lead and manage the evolution of TMG's accounting systems and procedures to remain aligned with
TMG's evolving business needs;
* Manage the workload of the Accounting staff to include managing and resolving operational
workflow and process issues to ensure a positive and balanced work environment;
* Work closely with the leadership of Operations to proactively work out inter-departmental
matters that affect accounting and operational accuracy and efficiency;
* Lead the effort to train, coach, and mentor the Accounting staff and members of the Operations
staff, as required, to ensure that all stakeholders understand their respective roles,
responsibilities and deliverables, including self-performing quality control checks of deliverables
to assure compliance;
* Prepare timely and accurate monthly financial statements in accordance with generally accepted
accounting principles, including footnotes and company consolidation;
* Evolve, document, and maintain an overall system of record keeping, including general ledger,
fixed assets, depreciation, and subsidiary ledger reconciliations to accumulate financial
transactions made by the company;
* Prepare and/or direct the preparation of timely reporting of governmental regulatory
requirements i.e., tax reporting/deposits, insurance reporting, BPOL, and licensing;
* Maintain a highly organized custody of official company documents;
* Prepare effective schedules for year-end audits and manage the quality of deliverables provided
to our outside CPA firm to assure smooth preparation of audited financial statements;
* Evolve TMG's information and accounting systems to effectively and efficiently manage TMG's
inventory, acquisition, and disposal of equipment and other capital assets;
* Work with company advisors, such as auditors, bankers, insurance agents, bonding agents, surety
company representatives, consultants, and lawyers as needed.
Education and/or experience
* Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance with a minimum of 7 - 10 years of experience or an
equivalent of education and experience;
* Certified Public Accountant with CPE preferred;
* Strong communication skills with the ability to effectively interact at all levels of the
organization;
* Proven success in the management of various accounting functions, including payroll, budgeting,
accounts receivable, accounts payable, internal audit, and financial reporting;
* Experience in contributing to or developing policies, procedures, and strategic plans;
* Knowledge of accounting principles and federal, state, and local laws;
* Proficiency with computer software used in general industry;
* High level of proficiency with spreadsheets, Email and other software used in the accounting and
construction industries;
* Knowledge of Microsoft Office software, managing information in a networked environment, the use
of Viewpoint and the ability to mine and report on data using Crystal Reports;
* Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals,
technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
