About This Role

This position oversees the daily operations of the payroll division which includes the responsibilities of payroll tax management, PeopleSoft HR systems - payroll, and payroll processing. This position provides leadership and expertise daily to the payroll division staff and the campus community by interpreting complex rules, statutes, regulations and policies and procedures.

This position is responsible for leading change management to seek continual process improvement and for working with systems staff, campus staff and internal payroll staff to develop and test system changes. The incumbent leads the development of new procedures and training materials. This position reports to the Director of Payroll.

What You'll Need to Succeed

Minimum Qualifications:



  • Requires a bachelor's degree and three years of relevant experience.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Three to five years of payroll experience
  • Proficient at MS Office, especially Excel
  • Knowledge of State and Federal regulations and laws pertaining to payroll
  • Experience with payroll tax at the federal, state, and local levels
  • Experience with monthly, quarterly, and annual 941 tax filings, as well as the annual creation reporting and filing of W2s for the KSU local agencies
  • Experience in the overall design and testing of personnel/payroll systems (PeopleSoft)
  • Experience leading successful and high-performing teams
  • Ability to manage highly confidential information
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification
