General Notes

The Access Center at UT Health Austin is seeking an ASC Endoscopy Technician. This role involves working closely with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure smooth and efficient operations in the endoscopy suite. The ASC Endoscopy Technician reports to the OR Charge Nurse and collaborates with roles such as Surgical Technicians and Medical Assistants.

Purpose

The ASC Endoscopy Technician is responsible for assisting in endoscopic procedures, ensuring the proper functioning and sterilization of endoscopic equipment, and providing patient care before, during, and after procedures.

Responsibilities

Assist with Endoscopic Procedures

  • Prepare the endoscopy room and equipment for procedures.

  • Assist physicians and nurses during endoscopic procedures.

  • Monitor and record patients' vital signs during procedures.

Maintain and Sterilize Equipment

  • Clean and sterilize endoscopic equipment according to protocols.

  • Ensure all equipment is functioning properly before use.

  • Maintain accurate records of equipment maintenance and sterilization.

Provide Patient Care

  • Transport patients to and from the endoscopy suite.

  • Provide pre- and post-procedure care instructions to patients.

  • Assist with patient positioning and comfort during procedures.

Manage Inventory and Supplies

  • Monitor inventory levels of endoscopic supplies and reorder as needed.

  • Ensure proper storage and handling of supplies.

  • Maintain an organized and well-stocked endoscopy suite.

Ensure Compliance with Safety Standards

  • Adhere to infection control and safety protocols.

  • Participate in quality assurance and improvement initiatives.

  • Stay updated on advancements in endoscopic technology and procedures.

Marginal or Periodic Functions

Participate in Staff Meetings

  • Attend regular staff meetings and training sessions.

  • Share updates and best practices with the team.

Assist with Administrative Tasks

  • Help with patient scheduling and paperwork as needed.

  • Maintain accurate patient records and documentation.

Required Qualifications

High school graduate or equivalent. Minimum of 1 year of relevant experience in a healthcare setting. Life Support (BLS) certification.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Completion of an accredited endoscopy or surgical technology program. Minimum of 2 years of experience in an ambulatory surgery center or similar healthcare setting. Certification as an Endoscopy Technician (CET) or Certified Surgical Technologist (CST).

Salary Range

$19.50+/hr depending on qualifications

Working Conditions

  • May be exposed to such occupational hazards as communicable diseases, blood borne pathogens, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation, hazardous medications and disoriented or combative patients, or others.
