The Position
Pharma Partnering is comprised of Business Development and Alliance Management, which are a diverse group of professionals who apply scientific, financial, and negotiating expertise to establish and maintain collaborations and other strategically important transactions (such as M&A, option deals, new company formation, etc.) in support of gRED, pRED and PD/GPS mission.
The Opportunity The Therapeutic Area (TA) Search and Evaluation Lead (aka S&E Lead) will be responsible for the initial identification and scientific evaluation of partnering opportunities in their therapeutic area, including sourcing, triage, and prioritization for further analysis in line with R&D Unit partnering interests. This role reports to the Global Head of Oncology, Pharma Partnering. Responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to the following: "WANT"
Deep understanding of Genentech Research and Early Development (gRED), Pharmaceutical Research and Early Development (pRED), and PD Therapeutic Area (TA) R&D / Commercial strategies and BD priorities Influence (alongside BDPLs and TA R&D Units) the TA partnering WANTS and strategic areas of partnering interest
"FIND"
Alongside BDPLs and TA R&D units, sources high-priority BD opportunities through scientific monitoring, competitive intelligence, networking, industry conferences and partnering events, and triaging incoming unsolicited BD requests Provides scientific thought leadership and analysis in initial scientific review, and triage of partnering opportunities that fit with TA R&D and Commercial unit interests Conducts (alongside BDPLs and others) landscape assessments for TA R&D units Builds and maintains relationships with external partners and the venture capital community as a representative of Roche
"GET"
Supports the transition of identified opportunities to the "GET" phase (Due Diligence and Negotiation) via collaboration and transfer of relationships, background, and scientific context to a BDPL Serves as an ambassador for Pharma Partnering internally and externally at industry events
Who You Are Qualifications / Skills / Experience:
Advanced degree (i.e., Master's Degree, PhD, PharmD, or similar scientific background) in biological or chemical sciences, or similar field. 2 years minimum drug development or relevant expertise in the designated therapeutic area
Additional skills:
Business development experience in a triage or S&E capacity, pharmaceutical or biotech industry preferred Strong scientific acumen, self-motivated drive, and genuine interest in following novel science and emerging industry trends Excellent communication and presentation skills Highly capable of articulating Roche Genentech's value proposition and partnering interests to varied audiences both internally and externally Positive, can-do attitude and collaborative spirit to engage across Partnering and Roche Genentech R&D units
Relocation benefits are not available for this position. The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $116,800-$216,800. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
