Molecular Pathology Scientist

Zoetis Veterinary Medicine Research and Development (VMRD) is looking for a skilled scientist to join the Molecular Pathology Lab within Clinical Pharmacology and Safety Sciences group based in Kalamazoo, MI. The Molecular Pathology Lab drives and supports drug discovery and research by developing and performing tissue-based assays to guide target identification, investigate downstream physiologic pathways of normal and diseased conditions, and understand efficacy and/or toxicity of therapeutics at the cellular and tissue level. This dynamic role involves close collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, including pathology, mechanistic biology, biomarkers, safety, and translational and model development groups.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, optimize and develop simplex to high-plex assays, including chromogenic immunohistochemistry (IHC)/immunofluorescence (IF)/in-situ hybridization (ISH)/spatial assays
  • Interpret assay results and perform digital image analysis
  • Implement rigorous quality control measures and best practices to maintain and ensure data integrity and reproducibility
  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to communicate technical findings
  • Complete assigned laboratory duties efficiently and accurately to support project timelines and milestones

Minimum Qualifications:

  • M.S. (or equivalent) with HTL, QIHC certification and minimum of 5 years of experience in an academic and/or industry setting developing and performing hands on simplex to low-plex assays. B.S. (or equivalent) with HTL, QIHC certification and 10 years of experience will be considered.
  • Demonstrated experience in manual and automated IHC/IF assay development (BOND, Ventana, etc.)
  • Experience with automated whole- slide imaging systems and working knowledge of digital image analysis techniques
  • Excellent organization skills, attention to detail, and ability to accurately document laboratory procedures
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Effective time management skills and the ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency in routine histologic tissue processing techniques (tissue trimming and processing, microtomy, and routine stains)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite

Desirable Skills and Experience:

  • Ph.D. (or equivalent) in relevant biomedical discipline (molecular biology/computational biology/bioinformatics)
  • Experience with image analysis platforms (HALO, Visiopharm, or equivalent programs)
  • Experience with spatial omics data
  • Experience with necropsy and trimming/grossing
