About the Callaway Energy Center

The Callaway Energy Center is a nuclear facility located in mid-Missouri. The Energy Center has more than 800 employees and contractors working at the facility, and it has established a strong record of safe operation throughout its 30-year operating history. The Energy Center is a highly efficient, low-cost, sustainable source of electricity for Ameren Missouri's 1.2 million customers.

DUTIES: Under direct, but not constant supervision, and working on a rotating or straight shift as may be required, to inspect, repair, maintain, and modify plant electrical equipment and to perform other work as may be required such as, but not limited to, the following: 1. Conduct special and routine surveillance tests on plant equipment to establish its condition or potential for deterioration which may impact plant or equipment performance or reliability. 2. Work independently using schematics, logic diagrams, drawings, or sketches in executing specific work requests. 3. Check to ensure that equipment to be worked on has been properly isolated and protected. On energized equipment, take steps to ensure that proper safety devices are in use and understood before work starts. 4. Erect scaffolds and rigging for plant activities. 5. Operate pipe and bolt threading machines, power saws, drill presses, hydraulic presses, grinders, and other general shop equipment. 6. Operate and make minor adjustments to plant electrical maintenance instruments such as voltmeters, ohmmeters and ammeters. 7. Temporarily remove and replace auxiliary devices such as small lubricating lines, tubing connection and vibration sensors encountered by him during normal maintenance activities. 8. Be aware of and at all times follow the Workman's Protection Assurance program and the use of Radiation Work Permits. 9. Communicate either verbally or in writing with authorized inspectors or other representatives of plant management or the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, on any plant activities with which he has been involved. 10. Operate acetylene or other heating torches or gas or electrical welding equipment as needed for heating of equipment or areas, soldering or brazing operations as required for their assigned work. 11. To assist on other jobs as required and perform incidental or less skilled work as required, including sweeping/cleaning shop area. 12. Properly drive a motor vehicle when directed or when required to perform his duties. 13. On an as needed basis to serve in any other plant activities for which he is trained.

SPECIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Journeymen will direct on-the-job training of Apprentices. Journeymen and Apprentices will participate in ongoing training, including successful completion of TPEs. To develop and maintain complete understanding of all facets of the plant emergency program and plant security system. To react as appropriate in the protection of the public in case of an operational emergency. To serve as an active participant in these programs.

QUALIFICATIONS: An applicant shall: 1. Be at least 18 years of age at time of application. 2. Have graduated from high school or passed a recognized high school equivalency examination. 3. Pass the physical which is required for that craft. 4. Employees receiving a disciplinary suspension within 12 months prior to the (common) acceptance date of the apprentice position(s) may be disqualified as a bidder at the discretion of the company. 5. Have demonstrated interest and pride in craftsmanship. 6. Possess ability to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation. 7. Pass the requirement for access at the Callaway Plant. 8. Possess the required education or experience. a. Completion of an Electrician apprenticeship program complying with 29 CFR 29.5 - Standards of apprenticeship

TERMS OF PROMOTION: 1. All employees will enter as a journeyman.

Hourly Pay:

Grade Step OA 065 Step 1 of 1 (Top Step) - 56.51 USD
