Comprehensive MedPsych Systems, one of Florida's leading counseling centers and part of the Optum family of businesses, is seeking a Medical Assistant to join our team in Jacksonville, FL. Our experienced team of professionals offers a wide variety of comprehensive outpatient resources including individual talk therapy and medication management for children, teens, adults and seniors.

Our Medical Assistants perform various office and clinical duties to keep our healthcare practice running efficiently. They work directly with psychiatry staff to maintain patient records, triage all calls to our psychiatry department, and record all patient requests for refills and concerns for physician review in our Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems (Athena). Our Medical Assistants collaborate with prescribers and clinicians to ensure documentation is completed according to standard work timelines. They also assist the clinic in daily operations including checking vitals, checking patients in and out, responding to messages, communicating with pharmacies and medical suppliers, and working with insurance companies for prior-authorizations and appeals as needed. Our Medical Assistants are also cross-trained to assist the receptionist with other front desk duties and are also cross-trained to assist the receptionist with other front desk duties.

This is a full-time position based on-site at 6817 Southpoint Pkwy., Suite 2402, Jacksonville, FL 32216 and is 100% on site. The schedule is Monday-Friday, 8a-5p EST. Candidates must reside within commuting distance of Jacksonville, FL.

Primary Responsibilities:



  • Demonstrate regard for the dignity and respect of all patients
  • Maintain confidentiality when interacting with patients, families, personnel, and the public
  • Maintain a positive public relations image with peers, patients, and visitors by presenting a positive, helpful attitude
  • Gather data relevant to the patient's age group and individual needs
  • Obtain and record: vital signs, weight, medication profile, allergies, chief complaint, signature/initials where appropriate before appointment with Psychiatrist
  • Receive and document telephone messages and record all requests in the EHR system for Physician follow-up
  • Utilize photocopy and fax machine as needed for documentation and communication purposes
  • Confirm scheduled appointments and follow up on missed appointments

Required Qualifications:



  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • 1+ years of experience working in a medical office
  • Experience working with computers for professional communication, including Microsoft Excel and Outlook
  • Live within commuting distance of 6817 Southpoint pkwy suite 2402 Jacksonville FL 32216
  • Willing and able to work 8a-5p, Monday-Friday


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Medical Assistant (MA) certification or ability to obtain within 90 days
  • Current, nationally recognized Basic Life Support (BLS) and/or CPR certification/registration
  • 3+ years of experience working in a medical office
  • Experience in a behavioral health outpatient setting
  • Experience using Athena RMS or other Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems
  • Excellent demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills
  • Bilingual in Spanish


If the hired individual resides in Florida (office based or telecommuting) this position requires the AHCA Level II background check (fingerprinting) by the State of Florida for all clinicians that have direct face to face contact with members OR employees who will have access to confidential patient data and will require renewal every five years.

The hourly range for this role is $16.00 to $28.85 per hour based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
