The Senior Correspondence Representative will be responsible for handling live chat inquiries related to patient billing, ensuring timely and effective resolution of billing issues. This includes assisting patients with understanding their billing statements, processing payments, initiating refunds, setting up payment plans, and updating patient demographic and insurance information. The role also involves providing information about available financial hardship programs to patients.

This position is full time, Monday - Friday. Employees are required to have flexibility to work any of our 8-hour shift schedules during our normal business hours of 8:30am - 5pm OR 9am - 5:30pm EST. It may be necessary, given the business need, to work occasional overtime.

We offer 2 - 4 weeks of on-the-job training. The hours of training will be aligned with your schedule.

Primary Responsibilities:



  • Manage live chat portal for patient billing inquiries, including helping patients understand their billing statements, collecting payments, initiating refunds, establishing payment plans, updating demographic and insurance information, and advising on financial hardship programs
  • Respond to overnight and weekend chats and escalate complex issues to appropriate staff as necessary
  • Foster strong business relationships with both clinical and non-clinical departments to ensure seamless coordination of patient accounts
  • Understand key revenue cycle areas impacting patient experience and collections
  • Address patient concerns, attempt resolutions, and refer chats/accounts to relevant areas of the facility if needed
  • Research payment options and navigate multiple patient accounting systems for updates
  • Maintain chat status to protect patient privacy and ensure compliance with State and Federal guidelines
  • Act as a liaison with the back-end billing software vendor, Cedar
  • Occasional travel may be required

Required Qualifications:



  • High School Diploma / GED OR equivalent work experience
  • Must be 18 years OR older
  • 2+ years of customer service experience
  • Ability to work full time, Monday - Friday. Employees are required to have flexibility to work any of our 8-hour shift schedules during our normal business hours of 8:30am-5pm or 9am-5:30pm EST. It may be necessary, given the business need, to work occasional overtime



Preferred Qualifications:



  • Experience in a healthcare, financial setting OR general office experience with customer interaction
  • Revenue cycle knowledge



Telecommuting Requirements:



  • Ability to keep all company sensitive documents secure (if applicable)
  • Required to have a dedicated work area established that is separated from other living areas and provides information privacy
  • Must live in a location that can receive a UnitedHealth Group approved high-speed internet connection or leverage an existing high-speed internet service

The hourly range for this role is $16.88 to $33.22 per hour based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
