Description

Each course at Herzing University is thoughtfully designed to introduce new concepts, build upon prior knowledge, provide supportive resources, allow the student to validate and remediate personal mastery of the content, and assess student development of a defined set of competencies and the achievement of a prescribed set of learning objectives. The faculty member is responsible for assisting each student in navigating the learning process within a course.

QUALIFICATIONS:



  • A Master's degree in a healthcare related field
  • At least one of the following certifications:


    • Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) through the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA)



    • Certified Coding Specialist-Physician Based (CCS-P) through AHIMA



    • Certified Professional Coder (CPC) through the American Association of Professional Coders (AAPC)





  • Current industry experience in a healthcare setting is a must.



  • Faculty must have a minimum of two years of working knowledge of healthcare operations related to insurance billing and medical coding.



  • College-level teaching experience in the insurance, billing, and medical coding field.




    Preferred experience:



    • At least two years of experience teaching in a remote online setting with experience using learning management systems such as Blackboard, Canvas, etc.
    • At least five years of related industry experience in coding

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:



    • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.
    • Ability to move about readily and rapidly, if necessary, around campus, classrooms, clinical settings, etc., to access classrooms, desks, students, office machinery, clinics, patients, etc.
    • Constantly communicates using the spoken word with students, staff and colleagues.
    • Visually or otherwise identify, observe and assess.
    • Operate equipment specific to programmatic track, personal computer, audio-visual equipment, clinical equipment, etc.
    • Travel to off-site meetings or conferences or to observe students during clinical education at off-site clinical settings.
    • In addition to the above requirements, for programs that include a clinical component, all faculty must be able to:


      • Stand and/or walk for extended periods of time.
      • Ability to reach by extending hands or arms in any direction.
      • Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects.
      • Ability to see and hear within normal parameters.
      • Lift up to 25 pounds.
