Responsible for supervising the compliance activities relating to sales, use and tobacco taxes as well as providing transaction tax subject matter expertise on cross-functional projects within Meijer. In addition, the position leads a team of tax professionals.

What You'll be Doing:

  • Talent Management: Lead and develop sales, use and tobacco tax compliance team.
  • Resource Management: Lead in the identification and implementation of process improvements for team and self and Meijer systems.
  • Organizational Development: Provide technical expertise on internal projects to evaluate and advise management of tax impacts of proposed business changes and legislative activity.
  • Work collaboratively throughout Meijer and with outside consultants to identify opportunities for savings and to facilitate business change while monitoring and minimizing tax risk.
  • Prepare and analyze applicable general ledger account reconciliations and make appropriate adjustment recommendations under Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Communication - Prepare and deliver reporting to leadership and outside auditors regarding Meijer's tax positions, risk and opportunities.
  • Perform other tax compliance, tax projects, tax research, tax issues and responsibilities as assigned, including activities outside of the transaction tax area.

What You Bring with You (Qualifications):

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • 8 years of aggregate experience in Public Accounting, Corporate Tax Department or equivalent.
  • CPA preferred.
  • Demonstrated strong technical skills in transaction tax matters.
  • Demonstrated strong technical knowledge of tax audit processes and procedures.
  • Hands on professional that works effectively at the most detailed level and maintains the big picture view.
  • Proficiency is use of tax research tools, both written and on line.
  • Ability to multi-task and complete complex projects with limited supervision.
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Strong team building and communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Experienced in use of tax software packages.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills, including Alteryx experience.
