The School of Public Health (SPH) is committed to antiracism and anti-oppression and welcomes you to join us in our pursuit of building equity and driving justice. We particularly encourage applications from those who belong to groups that have been historically underrepresented in our School, including those who are American Indian, Black, Indigenous, and people of color, those with disabilities, veterans, and those from 2SLGBTQIA+ communities. The School of Public Health Division of Epidemiology & Community Health is seeking applications for multiple part-time (2-14 hours per week) Community Health Assistants for WIC POPs project (casual employee job code 0001) to participate in the working group for the Professional Opportunities for Paraprofessional Staff in WIC (WIC POPS) project. An ideal candidate for the Community Health Assistant for WIC POPs project position would be someone with current or prior WIC staff, a community health worker or someone with similar experience. Pay: $25 per hour The University of Minnesota endorses "Work. With Flexibility." and we offer a flexible work environment that meets the needs of our students, faculty, staff, and partners we serve. Position/Project Description: The WIC POPS project is in year one (phase 1) of a 5-year cooperative agreement with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). The goal of the project is to develop a more robust, resilient WIC workforce to enhance the likelihood that eligible families participate in the program and adopt nutrition recommendations. Based on human design approaches, a key element of this project is that all phases of the project includes active involvement from WIC staff and members of the communities ultimately served by this work. To ensure this involvement occurs, we will have an advisory board composed of WIC staff and other experts in maternal and child nutrition and public health workforce development. In each phase of this project, we will hire a subset of the advisory board members to be a part of the working group to more directly assist with project activities. This Community Health Assistant for WIC POPs project position is the working group member position. Working group membership is anticipated to change across the life of the project as the needs for each phase of the project are different. For example, in phase 1 we are hiring current or prior WIC paraprofessionals and community health workers to conduct focus groups with paraprofessionals in WIC across the country. In phase 2, we will hire WIC staff to co-create staff trainings and resources. In phase 3, working group tasks will include implementation of the training program we develop. Phase 4 tasks will include dissemination activities (e.g., co-creation of materials, presenting the project, etc). The project has 4 phases: Phase 1 (20% - year 1): Conduct national formative assessment of paraprofessional staffing models and training strategies; conduct focus groups with paraprofessionals in WIC across the country Phase 2 (20% - year 2): Co-create staff training and resources for paraprofessionals and supporting WIC staff Phase 3 (40% - year 3-4): Pilot the training program across Wisconsin and Minnesota; implementation stage Phase 4 (20% - year 5): Plan for nation-wide scalability; dissemination activities (e.g., co-creation of materials, presenting the project, etc) Qualifications
