SUMMARY OF DUTIES

A Lead Cook plays a crucial role in the kitchen, overseeing the preparation and presentation of meals while ensuring the highest standards of quality, safety, and hygiene.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise Kitchen Staff: Coordinate and oversee the work of cooks and other kitchen staff to ensure timely and accurate preparation of meals.
  • Menu Planning: Assist in planning menus, including creating daily specials and adjusting recipes to meet dietary needs.
  • Food Preparation: Prepare and cook dishes according to recipes or instructions, often handling more complex dishes.
  • Inventory Management: Monitor inventory levels, order supplies, and ensure that ingredients are fresh and available.
  • Quality Control: Ensure food quality by tasting and adjusting flavors, and monitor food presentation and service.
  • Training and Development: Train new hires and instruct staff on proper cooking techniques and safety protocols.
  • Kitchen Maintenance: Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of the kitchen, adhering to food safety regulations.
  • Collaboration: Work with the executive chef and executive sous chef to ensure the overall success of the kitchen.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: Typically, 2-3 years of experience in a professional kitchen with increasing levels of responsibility.
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent; formal culinary training is often preferred.
  • Skills: Strong leadership and communication skills, creativity in menu planning, and a thorough understanding of food safety and sanitation regulations.

A Lead Cook is essential in creating a positive work environment and exceeding customer expectations through high-quality culinary experiences.

The risk category explains whether or not employees are likely to come into contact with blood or body fluids while performing their jobs. Risk category II states employment and procedures that may require exposure.
