Overview Provides leadership and oversight of audit teams responsible for planning and executing advisory and technology pre-implementation reviews across the Credit Union using a risk-based approach. This role requires a strategic leader that sets clear direction to ensure the audit team meets the goals & objectives of the department and Credit Union as a whole. Critical to this role is the ability to build a team with the requisite knowledge and skillsets through hiring, coaching, development, and on-job-training opportunities. It is also vital that this role successfully promotes partnership, trust, and accountability within our organization and builds deeper relationships with our audit stakeholders. Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee the performance of advisory and technology pre-implementation reviews in accordance with Navy Federal and industry audit standards.
- Responsible for building, directly managing, and developing teams with the requisite knowledge and skillsets necessary to execute engagements through hiring, training, coaching, skills assessment results review, performance management, and related managerial activities.
- Manage several engagements simultaneously, while supporting and directing the audit team in the execution of high-quality, critically reviewed control testing. Ensure the audit team's work and results are documented according to professional and internal standards.
- Accountable for driving audit quality through review and approval of key engagements deliverables including, but not limited to scope, risk and control matrices, business unit status deliverables, and audit reports.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with key stakeholders across business units, setting the stage for a collaborative audit process.
- Encourage the audit team to leverage data analytics and technology to drive deeper risk coverage and insights to business partners. Lead the team in brainstorming opportunities where data analytics can be leveraged, and partner with the Data Analytics team to establish an integrated team approach throughout the audit.
- Review audit reports in a timely manner, providing feedback and direction to the audit team, to ensure reports are high-quality, well-written, and delivered timely to senior management, the President/CEO, and the Supervisory Committee.
- Actively pursue opportunities within the Credit Union to partner with management on the implementation of strategic initiatives; providing advisory and testing support as the company's 3rd Line of Defense.
- Actively participate in the annual risk assessment and serves as the primary reviewer for bottom-up risk assessments completed by the audit team.
- Leverage knowledge of the risks of the business, as well as participation in the annual risk assessment process to propose audit engagements for potential inclusion in the Annual Work Program.
- Champion change management efforts and the department strategic plan/initiatives within their team and the broader department.
- Stay abreast of and ensure compliance with applicable federal, state and industry laws, regulations, and guidelines.
- Actively monitor and stay current with evolving industry trends and emerging risks that may impact the company.
- Represent the department, acting on behalf of department leadership, as liaison and spokesperson to Navy Federal committees, other Departments and senior management regarding areas of responsibility.
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or the equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.
- Minimum eight years of experience in internal audit, with advanced knowledge of internal control concepts and practices and risk-based auditing techniques.
- Experience leading advisory and technology pre-implementation reviews.
- Extensive experience managing multiple priorities independently and operating well in a team environment to achieve goals.
- Expert interpersonal and communication skills, including experience working with all levels of staff, management, stakeholders, and vendors.
- Extensive experience in collaborating across organizational boundaries and building partnerships across various functions.
- Expert skill to influence, negotiate, and persuade to reach agreeable exchange & positive outcomes.
- Expert organizational, planning and time management skills.
- Expert word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software skills.
- Expert skill maintaining confidentiality and demonstrating integrity.
- Desired - Master's degree or related field, or the equivalent combination of experience, education and training.
- Extensive experience supervising and leading professional employees.
- Extensive experience managing multi-dimensional teams and projects of great complexity which involve organization, holding strategy and status meetings, planning, motivating and managing the work of participants.
- Expert skill presenting findings, conclusions, alternatives, and information clearly and concisely.
- Expertise in demonstrating thought-leadership, initiative-taking, decision-making and creativity solving business problems.
- Expert critical and analytical thinking skills to include summarizing information and clearly identifying key elements, patterns, results or relationships.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience working within a credit union/financial services institution.
- Working Knowledge of NFCU products, services, programs, policies and procedures.
- Master's degree or related field, or the equivalent combination of experience, education and training.
