BID/JOB ANNOUNCEMENT PROOFREADER OFFICE OF THE CITY CLERK (City Council) Number of Positions: 3 (Additional vacancies possible pending budget approval) Starting Salary: $50,424 Applications for this position will be accepted until 11:59 pm CDT on 04/23/2025 This position is covered under the City's collective bargaining agreement with AMERICAN FEDERATION OF STATE, COUNTY, AND MUNICIPAL EMPLOYEES (AFSCME) - BARGAINING UNITS 1, 3, 4, & 5. Select your correct bargaining unit FAILURE TO FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS WILL RESULT IN A REJECTED BID APPLICATION Under general supervision, performs proofreading functions and records minutes of City Council proceedings, and performs related duties as required ESSENTIAL DUTIES * Uses intermediate-level word processing, spreadsheet, and related desktop software menu selections to draft, format, append, and generate a variety of complex legal documents, reports, and publications, and perform a variety of functions * Input, compiles, and manipulates text, graphics, and numerical information from various sources and in a variety of formats to create uniformity and adherence to established editorial and publication requirements and standard office reference material * Proofreads and edits proof copies of the City Council Journal of Proceedings, special pamphlets, and publications for accuracy, completeness, continuity, and style * Performs data entry and prepares, reviews, and edits metadata and tracking information of legislative files * Compiles and organizes documents and prepares records, synopses, votes, motions, and related information for inclusion in the City Council Journal or Proceedings and related publications * Enters information into computer databases and software programs and performs required modifications * Uses peripheral equipment and software (i.e., scanners) to automate assignments and photocopies and scans documents, pictures, and graphics, as needed
Additional duties may be required for this position Location: City Hall, 121 N. LaSalle Street, Room 107 Days: Monday - Friday Hours: 8:00 - 4:00 (Mandatory Overtime as needed) THIS POSITION IS IN THE CAREER SERVICE Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Training, and Experience * Two years of editing and proofreading experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience NOTE: Overtime is required during budget season and periodically throughout the year SELECTION REQUIREMENTS This position requires applicants to successfully pass a skills assessment test to pass the interview. An interview and Proofreading assessment will also be administered. Test results will be sent out by the Department of Human Resources after they have been analyzed and compiled.
