Starting Annual Salary: $91,344.00

This position is open to the public and all current City employees covered under the City's collective bargaining agreement with Teamsters Local 743 (BARGAINING UNIT 56). Only employees in City job titles in this bargaining unit are eligible to bid.

Under direction, this title is the supervisory level classification in the series. Positions in this class supervise public health nursing programs, services, and/or professional nursing activities within a health center(s) or in the community; and performs related duties as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

* Plans, organizes, and manages the work of staff responsible for providing professional nursing care to individuals, groups and/or families to improve the overall health of communities, or functions as a nursing team leader in a health clinic

* Works with staff and community representatives to identify public health needs and works to plan, develop and implement standards for client care

* Supervises the collection and entry of comprehensive medical, psychosocial, and environmental histories, laboratory results and related data on clients and their families into relevant data and

record systems

* Observes and implements activities and uses community and public health center statistics to assess the quality and effectiveness of services provided to increase customer service, enhance efficiency and effectiveness to achieve health equity

* Assigns and distributes caseloads to nurses and observes and evaluates assigned staff at their work locations, including clients' homes

* Supervises and participates in interdisciplinary case conferences with clients, their families and health and social service providers within the community

* Provides guidance, professional expertise, and direction on complex nursing issues

* Reviews and approves nursing care plans ensuring they are complete, and that recommended

care is appropriate

* Reviews and participates in the development, evaluation and implementation of nursing programs for quality assurance management processes for programs or services

* Participates in the development of programmatic workflows, policies and procedures

* Recommends changes in departmental policies and procedures to improve the quality and effectiveness of programs or services

* Participates in developing and implementing educational programs for patients, staff, and partner agencies

* Participates in the delivery of direct services, including, but not limited to, home visits, immunizations and activities related to responding to public health emergencies

* Establishes linkages and partnership agreements with regional health and social services providers to ensure continuity, accessibility and quality of care to clients

* Acts as a consultant to partner agencies to provide expert nursing direction and education in the areas of health, safety and state and local licensing procedures

* Confers with program directors and management personnel regarding the efficient allocation of program personnel in an assigned region or health center(s) and recommends staffing levels to meet service goals

* Collaborates with programs, departments and community organizations/agencies that interface with health care providers

* Assists with the preparation and revision of public health program plans and/or budgets; prepares and administer grants and funding requests; collects data and maintains records, insuring confidentiality of medical information; develops information and prepares reports

* Maintains standards of public health nursing and ensures that services rendered are in compliance with federal, state and local laws and regulations

* Identifies staff development needs and conducts and/or coordinates in-service training programs

* Supervises the orientation of new staff and students on departmental policies and nursing practices

Additional duties may be required for this position

Location: Uptown and 10 S. Kedzie

Days: Monday - Friday

Hours: 8:00am - 4:00pm

THIS POSITION IS IN THE CAREER SERVICE

Qualifications

* A Bachelor's degree in Nursing accredited by the National League for Nursing or an approved

foreign credential evaluation PLUS three (3) years of professional nursing experience, of which

one (1) year is in a supervisory/team lead role related to the responsibilities of the position

OR

* A Master's degree or higher in Nursing accredited by the National League for Nursing or an approved foreign credential evaluation PLUS two (2) years of professional nursing experience,

of which one (1) year is in a supervisory/team lead role related to the responsibilities of the

position

Licensure, Certification, or Other Qualifications:

* Must be licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse. Applicants must possess a valid State of Illinois Registered Nurse license at the time of employment

SELECTION REQUIREMENTS

This position requires applicants to complete an interview which will include a written exercise/or a skills assessment test as part of the interview. The interviewed candidate(s) possessing the qualifications best suited to fulfill the responsibilities of the position, based on the oral and written parts of the interview will be selected.
