Overview
Southern Cancer Center is hiring an RN for our Raidation Oncology Depratment. Under general supervision, provides professional nursing care for patients adhering to national and company standards and guidelines for specialty regulations. Demonstrates knowledge of physiological, psychological, and developmental and age specific differences in the patient population including late adolescence, adulthood, middle age, and the elderly. Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to provide for assessment and therapeutic management of patient/family needs. Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, to include the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities Note: See Specialty Specific Requirements (e.g., transplant, infusion) as applicable.
Care Coordination:
- Plan, implement, coordinate, and evaluate care to ensure continuity and adherence to established standards.
Patient Assessment:
- Conduct patient interviews to assess current health status and medical history.
- Collect and record nursing assessments and interventions.
- Report assessment results and relevant data to the provider.
Patient Education and Support:
- Identify and address patient and family needs through education and support.
- Provide psychosocial support while maintaining confidentiality.
Therapy Administration:
- Prepare and administer therapies under physician supervision.
- Ensure correct administration of medications and blood products, verifying dosage, route, and timing.
- Obtain necessary pre-authorizations and consent forms.
Clinical Procedures:
- Facilitate dose modifications in collaboration with physicians.
- Perform venipuncture, access implanted ports, and maintain central lines.
- Document patient care accurately.
Operational Efficiency:
- Maintain and restock the work environment.
- Follow OSHA guidelines for handling hazardous materials.
- Manage medication refill requests and assist with exams and procedures.
- Ensure efficient patient flow and schedule necessary appointments and tests.
- Triage and document patient calls, and coordinate care services as needed.
Interprofessional Collaboration:
- Collaborate with clinical research teams and provide support to LPN/LVNs and medical assistants.
- Provide nursing coverage for satellite offices as needed.

Qualifications
Minimum Job Qualifications
Education/Training:
- Graduate from an accredited nursing program; BSN preferred.
- Valid RN state license and registration.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Must maintain continuing education requirements.
Experience:
- 0-3 years of nursing experience, with at least one year in oncology preferred.
Working Conditions
Environment:
- Exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, and other conditions typical of an oncology/hematology clinic.
Physical Requirements:
- Full range of body motion, including handling and lifting patients.
- Extensive standing and walking.
- Occasionally lift and carry up to 40 lbs.
- Requires normal range vision and hearing.
Specialty Specific Responsibilities
Transplant RN:
- Provide care from initial contact through high-dose chemotherapy and stem cell rescue.
- Manage symptoms and health abnormalities in collaboration with transplant teams.
- Report data to transplant registries and incorporate network recommendations.
Infusion RN:
- Program and instruct patients on portable infusion pumps for continuous drug delivery.
- Demonstrate pump maintenance, usage, and proper documentation.
