THE POSITION

Are you an experienced professional with a background in business development, and investment? The Department of Community and Economic Development, Office of BusinessPa is actively seeking an Economic Development Consultant who will be responsible for attracting new business investment and growing the Pennsylvania (PA) economy by promoting PA's strengths, serving as a business concierge, and consultant, and coordinating the efforts of international contractors and local economic development partners.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this role, you will take the initiative to identify, pursue, and facilitate investment opportunities aimed at bringing new business and development to Pennsylvania. You will implement approved strategies for foreign direct investment in collaboration with the BusinessPA International team. Your responsibilities will include reviewing investment leads, conducting thorough research, and collaborating on projects with Pennsylvania's Authorized Investment Representatives. You will analyze these investment leads to assess the level of Commonwealth resources required for each specific project. Additionally, you will work alongside PA Investment Representatives and local economic development partners to provide essential information regarding Pennsylvania's sites, labor force, wages, and other relevant statistics to potential investors. Engaging with local economic development agencies, you will identify available buildings and sites that meet the specific needs of client companies. Your efforts will also involve collaborating with local stakeholders, including businesses, community organizations, and government entities, to highlight Pennsylvania's strengths and attract investment. You will be responsible for creating itineraries, meeting agendas, and facilitating site tours and meetings, ensuring that international companies visiting Pennsylvania receive all pertinent information. Furthermore, you will develop and maintain reference materials, manuals, and annual updates to ensure that research and marketing resources remain current and accessible to International Investment Representatives and foreign investors. Lastly, you will work with the DCED Marketing team to craft and develop investment-related marketing materials that cater to the specific needs of foreign markets.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 60-minute lunch
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time on Monday and Friday. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year as an Economic Development Consultant 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Four years of professional experience in economic planning and development programs, and a bachelor's degree; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Additional Requirements:
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Preferred Criteria (not required):
  • Have professional work experience in international business, economics, or international development.
  • Have you completed coursework in international business, economics, or international development.
  • Possess clear, concise writing skills.
  • Ability to perform research.
