Department Summary

As part of the Division of Finance & Administration, the University Budget Office supports UNT's financial planning by assisting all levels of management in developing budgets that align with the institution's strategic goals. We ensure that budgeting processes and reports are accurate, timely, and compliant with UNT policies, as well as state and federal regulations. Our office serves as a key resource for financial planning and decision-making across the university.

Position Overview

This position is responsible for senior level specialized professional analysis and accounting work, with primary responsibility for mining financial and related information in various formats and from a variety of University and other sources; developing and/or utilizing complex financial databases; and cooperating with external agency requests for data.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in accounting, finance, or related field and four years' of professional experience in accounting, finance or related field; or any equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Extensive knowledge of economic and accounting principles and practices, legal statutes, and analysis and reporting of financial data. Extensive knowledge of financial accounting within the relevant environment. Ability to analyze numerical detail, identify patterns or trends, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to analyze, consolidate, and present financial data in clear concise forms to a variety of audiences. Ability to work between multiple ledgers.

Job Duties:



  • Completes variety of complex monthly financial management reports and reviews reports for errors and inconsistencies; analyzes variations in forecasts and actual performance; determines reasons for variance; develops recommendations for improvement; completes written summaries of financial data.
  • Prepares and/or supervises preparation of monthly financial reports, schedules for annual financial reports, and reports to various government agencies, ensuring conformance of such reports with applicable procedures and regulations of University of North Texas System and Federal and State agencies.
  • Prepares financial models and conducts financial analyses.
  • Identifies areas of poor performance, presents findings, and makes recommendations to upper management.
  • May maintain controls for policies and procedures for financial system; develops and maintains delegation of authority of various procedures.
  • Completes more complex special projects as requested.
  • Provides guidance and training to university personnel as needed to accomplish departmental responsibilities.
  • Develops working relationships with university central administration and departmental personnel as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
