Role Summary

The Facilities Production Design team plans and oversees the design and construction quality of Rivian's global portfolio of production facilities. We're a diverse team of Architects and Engineers (MEP, Fire Protection, Process/Chemical, Structural & Civil), Technical Subject Matter Experts and Building Specialists that come together to build world-class facilities that enable Rivian to scale. We challenge the status quo and deliver innovative, cost-efficient solutions to complex problems across Rivian's existing and proposed vehicle production facilities.

Our Facilities Production Design team is responsible for design and engineering support of all aspects of our buildings and infrastructure. As a Mechanical Engineer in our team, you will:


Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, specification and execution of mechanical airside and hydronic systems used in vehicle production. These include spaces with chemical dispense and hazardous process exhaust, paint mix and spray applications, ISO clean rooms, building pressurization regimes, and central utility plants.
  • Work on production processes with cross-functional disciplines, including external stakeholders and clients.
  • Solve complex problems and deliver technical projects.
  • Utilize knowledge of the International Building Codes (IBC), central utility plants, psychrometric diagrams and calculations, thermodynamics, ASHRAE 55 thermal comfort, ASHRAE 62.1 ventilation requirements, equipment sizing and rating requirements.
  • Lead basic & detailed design engineering activities for mechanical scope of assigned projects.
  • Prepare and review mechanical system control diagrams, air and hydronic flow diagrams, system submittals, construction and as-built drawings.
  • Oversee the installation of mechanical systems to ensure they adhere to contract documents.
  • Develop design standards for new projects and facilities.
  • Work in a technically complex and fast-moving environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Architectural Engineering (or related discipline) with 5+ years of experience (hiring level commensurate with experience).
  • Demonstrated ability to solve complex technical problems and deliver technical projects.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of building design, coordination and delivery.
  • Demonstrated ability to expand concepts beyond the project level and drive impact across a portfolio.
  • Experience working with cross-functional disciplines, including external stakeholders and clients.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience working in BIM and other CAD environments.
  • Desire to work in a technically complex and fast-moving environment.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
    • Masters degree in a field of study relating to the built environment.
    • Experience with applying sustainability principles to your work.
    • Licensed Professional Engineer (or similarly recognized professional certification).
    • Experience with AutoCAD, Revit and/or other computer-aided drafting software
    • Experience with energy modeling and IECC/ ASHRAE compliance methods
    • Experience with Life Cycle Cost Analysis (LCCA)
    • Experience with HVAC load modeling software (i.e. HAP, TRACE, eQuest, etc.)
    • Experience with plumbing design
