The Senior Manager of Procurement is responsible for overseeing procurement, vendor relationships and supply chain operations engagement across Optum WA and OR. This role, in partnership with the corporate and regional procurement teams will develop and execute strategies to optimize sourcing, purchasing, and vendor management processes, ensuring cost-effectiveness, quality, and timely delivery of goods and services. The Senior Manager of Procurement will work closely with cross-functional teams across the organization to drive continuous improvement, mitigate risks, and support the company's overall business objectives. The Senior Manager of Procurement will manage a team of buyers primarily responsible for ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs), diagnostic labs, imaging services, and multi-specialty clinics. Categories include capital equipment, pharmaceuticals, surgical supplies and outpatient clinical goods. This role requires close collaboration with internal stakeholders to drive value, service excellence and innovation in the supply chain. Primary Responsibilities:
- Leadership and Team Management:
- Develop and implement procurement and supply chain strategies aligned with regional and corporate objectives
- Lead the Procurement and Supply Chain Team, providing guidance, mentoring, and professional development opportunities
- Collaborate with senior leadership to align supply chain and procurement strategies with business goals
- Procurement Strategy and Execution:
- Oversee the procurement process, including sourcing, negotiation, contract management, and purchasing activities for clinical and pharmaceutical products, devices and services
- Identify and capture cost saving opportunities, rebate/incentives management, optimize supplier performance, and mitigate risk
- Ensure alignment of procurement strategy and performance with the needs, goals and policies of the organization
- Stakeholder Engagement:
- Liaison between clinical teams, pharmacy, finance, supply chain operations
- Proactively engage internal stakeholders to understand and support their procurement needs
- Support change management initiatives, including new system implementations and supply models
- Contracting and Compliance:
- Manage full lifecycle of contracts: negotiation, execution, monitoring, and renewal
- Ensure adherence to internal policies, GPO agreements, and regulatory requirements.
- Partner with Legal and Compliance teams to manage risk
- Risk Management:
- Identify and mitigate risks related to procurement and supply chain activities, including supply disruptions, quality issues, and compliance concerns
- Develop contingency plans to address potential supply chain disruptions and ensure business continuity
- Technology and Innovation:
- Leverage technology and data analytics to enhance procurement and supply chain operations
- Drive the adoption of digital tools and platforms to improve transparency, efficiency, and decision-making
- Team Development and Leadership:
- Build and lead a high-performing procurement and supply chain team, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement
- Provide training and development opportunities to enhance the skills and knowledge of the team
- Reporting and Communication:
- Prepare regular reports and presentations for executive management on procurement and supply chain performance
- Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders, suppliers, and partners to ensure alignment and collaboration

- 5+ years of progressive procurement experience
- 3+ years of experience in a leadership position
- Experience in healthcare procurement, particularly in clinical and pharmaceutical categories
- Familiarity with Group Purchasing Organizations (GPOs) and Procure-To-Pay (P2P) systems
- Exceptional interpersonal, negotiation, and analytical skills
- Ability to thrive in a dynamic, evolving environment
- Solid negotiation, contract management, and vendor relationship management skills
- Proficiency in data analytics with analytical and problem-solving abilities
Preferred Qualifications:
- Professional certification such as Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM), Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP), or equivalent
- Implementation or optimization of P2P systems
The salary range for this role is $89,800 to $176,700 annually based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
