Position Summary

The Imaging Supervisor reports directly to the Director of Research and will supervise and perform technical procedures involving magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The supervisor will ensure safe and efficient flow of research scanning sessions, engage in the implementation of scanning procedures for research imaging protocols, participate in selecting, implementing and coordinating the repair of peripheral equipment used with the research MRI scanner. The incumbent will also provide basic engineering and troubleshooting support for scanner software and hardware problems.

Responsibilities

• Ensures subject safety by screening for medical conditions, allergy history and foreign objects including metal implants, pacemakers, aneurysm clips, hearing aids and shrapnel.
• Ensures subject and equipment safety by strictly adhering to the MRI safety policy and procedures.
• Perform scans following standardized protocols for each study including subject positioning and setting up of peripheral equipment.
• Reviews the quality of image data of finished scans prior to submission for completion of study.
• Performs clerical responsibilities associated with acquisition, processing and archiving of research records and scans.
• Clearly explains scanning procedures to subjects and answers their questions in an appropriate and professional manner.
• Complete required documentation: Checklists, iLab, Redcap, Sponsor forms.
• Assist with implementing new MRI protocols.
• Engage with advanced imaging techniques for research scans.
• Participate in online Clinical Trial imaging training.
• Manage scheduling of iLAB requests for research
• Complete monthly billing for research scans and Safety Reads
• Assist in study builds for iLab and Epic.
• Communicate with research study teams as needed.
• Monitors equipment and coordinates repairs.
• Trains staff members on new equipment and exams.
• Observes subjects while in the MRI area for change in status and makes appropriate intervention or contacts PI or coordinator for instruction.
• Directs other non-technical personnel that may be assigned to the area for which they are responsible.
• Identifies and corrects problems as appropriate with escalation of critical incidents promptly to the next level of authority.
• Operates and maintains equipment on a daily basis maintaining logbooks with equipment performance data: schedules PM, performs QA, maintains records required for and participates in inspections.
• Image non-human primates and large animals.
• Supervise DVM and Study team for MR safety, animal setup and clean up.
• Assists with administering first aid when needed
• Competent to administer contrast media via appropriate peripheral IV access as ordered while abiding by NY state guidelines (if appropriately certified)
• Monitors subjects before, during and after contrast administration for possible allergic reaction to contrast media
• Performs other related duties as assigned by supervisor or departmental leadership.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and experience; plus four years of MRI experience
• New York State Licensed X-Ray Technologist by the Department of Health. Registered X-Ray Technologist by American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
• ARRT MRI certification
• New York State license to inject contrast

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience in a research setting preferred
• Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail to ensure accurate imaging and adherence to safety protocols
• Must have excellent communications skills with the ability to maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA guidelines.
• Experience with Radiology information Systems, PACS, Data processing and digital data transfer preferred

• Follow established cleaning protocols after animal scanning.

• Demonstrates proficiency with a wide variety of imaging equipment and computers.
• Must have the ability to perform work in a neat, orderly and safe manner with full knowledge of MR safety and ability to enforce safety regulations is required.
