Overview

Performance Improvement Specialist

UnityPoint Health- Fort Dodge

FTE: 1.0 (Full-time, 40 hours per week)
Shift: Monday - Friday 8am-4:30pm

Works closely with all healthcare team members in the hospital. This individual is responsible and accountable for reporting issues, changes, successes and barriers to the PI manager. This individual will also assist with planning, implementing, and studying initiatives in collaboration with other partners in effort to improve the quality and safety of the hospital environment for our patients.

Responsibilities

* Serves as an internal expert and consultant for performance improvement (PI) initiatives; providing support where able

* Designs and implements PI initiatives at the local affiliate and partners with System level for applicable initiatives

* Recognizes consistency and synergy between PI and strategic and business plans

* Conducts reviews of operational performance systems and assists the improvement teams to clarify specific benchmarks

* Assists with process mapping locally to facilitate improvement to meet organizational needs

* Provides clinical expertise/guidance in collection, interpretation and reporting of data or information from clinical situations

* Determines need for databases as appropriate to the project scope

* Prepares electronic presentations and projects

* Works directly with healthcare team members and physicians to devise, implement, monitor and analyze performance improvement initiatives

* Ongoing supervision or participation of databases or registries as appropriate

* Troubleshoots problems with projects, systems, applications and provides user support

* Follows through on problems and issues until appropriately resolved

* Interfaces with national benchmarking organizations and UnityPoint Health and TRMC workgroups

* Assesses compliance to regulatory standards with recommendations for change.

* Serves as liaison to Medical Staff for PI policy/functions as needed.

* Prepares reports adequately and timely for assigned committees and documents activity appropriately to meet regulatory standards with correct storage and handling of confidential data

* Strong understanding of process improvement tools, methodologies and UPH Management System

* Demonstrates ability to prioritize multiple projects, meet deadlines and manage multiple customer relationships using workplans, timelines, and project measures

* Maintains positive physician and staff relationships

* Completes the design and/or implementation of special projects

* Supports clinical risk management activities

* Conducts or participates in medical staff peer review activities

* Oversite and/or contributes to security management systems

* Ability to mentor staff


Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor's degree in nursing or has a bachelor's degree in health care administration or health related field required.

MSN, MHA or Masters degree in health-related field preferred.

Experience:

One-Three years successful employment in related field required.

License(s)/Certification(s):

Valid driver's license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons required.

CPHQ, Process Improvement certification (Adaptive Design, LEAN, Six Sigma, Change Management etc) preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Effective written/verbal Effective written/verbal communication skills. Basic knowledge of computer concepts, information systems. Ability to meet time frames for work completion. Effective skills at team work and team facilitation. Commitment to maintaining a high level of competence in accreditation and performance improvement concepts.
