Job Summary:

The Finance Manager position plays a key role in the financial planning and analysis processes for SunOpta, including the preparation of budget, monthly/quarterly forecast, and long-term plans, as well as the preparation of management reporting and other ad hoc analysis to support business decision making. The Finance Manager is responsible for working cross-functionally to facilitate internal planning and reporting processes and provide guidance and analysis of business results. The Finance Manager may be involved in long-term strategic planning, business development and other special projects and initiatives. The role is responsible for managing and developing a Financial Analyst reporting directly to the Finance Manager. The ideal candidate for this position is a highly focused team player and thought leader in the finance function, who leads by example, takes ownership of processes, is accountable for results, and fosters effective communication. They identify problems, then develop, lead, and implement solutions. The person in this role has a broad knowledge of finance concepts - both in general and those specific to SunOpta -- and can manage their work independently.

Essential Functions of the Job:



  1. Budgeting and Forecasting

    • Support the annual budget and monthly/quarterly forecasts for the segment by providing direction and liaising with key finance and other functional leaders (sales, marketing, operations, R&D, quality, etc.).
    • Facilitate gathering key budget and forecast assumptions from finance and other cross-functional business partners, including consolidation of data into Hyperion Planning.
    • Take ownership of financial modelling, forecasting, budget, scenario planning, and business partnering to ensure deadlines and targets are met.
    • Prepare consolidated segment budget and forecast reports, including manufacturing statements, income statement, balance sheet, and statement of cash flows.
    • Lead process improvement initiatives, including systems development related to the business planning process, and documentation of those initiatives.






  1. Financial Close and Reporting

    • Prepare, analyze, and communicate standard monthly/quarterly management reports, with strong focus on customer margin performance, and escalation of noteworthy observations to segment leadership.
    • Drive ongoing development of financial accounting and management reporting systems/tools to streamline reporting packages and improve analytical tools.






  1. Other

    • Lead frequent interaction with sales and marketing to compile all customer revenue analysis and profitability models.
    • Leverage existing and new technology to enhance and innovate reporting capabilities to drive business partnership and results transparency.
    • Actively identify profit generating and process improvement opportunities and provide recommended actions to management.
    • Develop/maintain financial models and other ad hoc analyses to provide relevant and insightful information on business performance.
    • Drive continuous improvement initiatives in standard processes and reporting.
    • Identify problems, lead process improvement initiatives, and implement solutions.
    • Coach, train, and mentor less experienced staff and junior level employees.
    • Other duties as assigned.




Supervisory Responsibilities:



  • Financial Analyst reports directly to this position.


Minimum Qualifications:



  • Undergraduate degree in Finance and/or Accounting.
  • 5+ years of financial analysis experience with a strong track record of growth and increasing responsibilities.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting systems, business planning, financial modelling, and analysis.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • MBA and/or CPA.
  • At least 2 years of managerial experience.
  • Proficiency in Oracle, Hyperion, and Essbase.
  • Familiarity with data analytics tools, such as Tableau or Power BI.

Additional Considerations:



  • Travel Expectations: minimal.
  • The preferred location for this role is in our Corporate Office in Eden Prairie, MN.
  • Relocation or international remote working arrangements (outside of the US) will not be considered.
