Posting Summary |
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Program Coordinator I for The Rutgers Future Scholars. Reporting to and under the supervision of the Program Manager. This position will have primary responsibility for the coordination of key components of the Rutgers Future Scholars (
RFS) program, a competitive college preparation scholarship program, operated on the Rutgers University-Newark campus.
The Rutgers Future Scholars (
RFS) Program is a 5-year pre-college program for talented, low income, first generation college-bound youth from Rutgers University's five host cities: Camden, New Brunswick, Newark, Piscataway, and Rahway. The goal of the
RFS Program is to increase the number of youth from disadvantaged backgrounds who complete high school and attend college. Scholars who successfully complete the program, and receive admission into Rutgers University receive a full-tuition scholarship (after all federal and state grant aid) funded through a range of grants and donations.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
- Develops and implements academic, cultural, and personal development programming for RFS Newark participants during the academic year and summer months.
- Manages and supports program reporting, maintain accurate records and data.
- Supports and fosters relationships within the Newark Board of Education school district, other RFS sites, partners, Rutgers university departments and personnel and other relevant agencies.
- Provides oversight for RFS seasonal, student and temporary personnel.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
- A Bachelors Degree preferably in human/youth development, sociology, social work, public policy, science, math, or related technical fields or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
- Two years of related professional experience with progressive responsibility which includes youth development programming, working with various populations in educational settings or community based organizations, collaboration/coalition building, budget preparation and assessment.

- Excellent organizational, public presentation, written communication, organizational, negotiation and interpersonal skills and computer literacy.

Preferred Qualifications |
- Master degree.
- Teacher's certification in academic discipline, curriculum development or administration.
- Teaching experience at post secondary level helpful.
- The successful candidate will be a program planner, motivational leader, mentor, goal-oriented individual, working together with middle and high school students, relevant Rutgers staff and students, community leaders and corporate sponsors to accomplish the objectives of the program.
- Knowledge and experience working within the community of Newark.
- Fluency in other languages (Spanish/English).

- Familiarity with current software programs such as Microsoft Office Suite including, Word, Excel, Powerpoint.

Physical Demands and Work Environment |
- Able to lift/carry equipment & supplies for program activities (30lbs or less), as well as physical activities such as light hiking, exercise, walking, optional sports.
- Programming runs on scheduled Saturdays during the academic year and some evenings.
- Will consist of traveling to the partnering schools and RFS communities as needed.
