Overview

KCI's Water Resources Practice is looking for a highly qualified, self-driven scientist to supplement our team. The selected candidate will support a large transit client in the DC region with managing all aspects of their stormwater program, including tracking compliance inspections, coordinating repairs to drainage and stormwater management infrastructure, ensuring compliance with NPDES and industrial permit conditions, and ensuring required reporting is completed. The work will require a minimum of one day per week working directly with the client in their DC office. Other days will be working at various project sites in the region, working remotely, or in KCI's office.

Duties, Responsibilities & Other

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    Familiarity with the NPDES and industrial permits is required.
  • Familiarity of stormwater infrastructure is required. Successful candidate will have previous stormwater asset inspection or construction experience related to facilities operations, stormwater management and drainage infrastructure.
  • Candidate will conduct stormwater asset performance inspections and review inspection reports and coordinate repairs to correct deficiencies.
  • Candidate will review and update stormwater pollution prevention plans, and coordinate inspections. Candidate will coordinate activities to correct deficiencies noted in the inspections.
  • Candidate will assist the client in developing compliance reporting for regulatory agencies.
  • Candidate must be self-driven and able to identify what is needed to be completed, and support client with management of the overall program. Ability to coordinate with engineers and scientists within KCI to ensure the right staff are involved on each assignment will be key to success.
  • Must be able to open manholes and conduct field work.
  • Occasionally, stormwater sample collection may be needed after normal working hours.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead field studies, including sampling and data collection.
  • Analyze data using statistical and scientific methods.
  • Prepare detailed reports and documentation for clients and regulators.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams on environmental projects.
  • Maintain project files, logs, and data sets.
  • Collaborate with other departments, agencies, and consultants.
  • Stay current on planning best practices and local regulations.
  • Complete all tasks on time and within budget while fully meeting project scope.
  • Achieve or exceed budgets individual utilization targets.
  • Comply with all KCI policies and procedures.
  • Ensure projects comply with ISO standards.

Qualifications

Education and/or Skills Required:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in related field.
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Geology, or related field.
  • Knowledge of relevant environmental regulations and fieldwork methods.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Proficiency in GIS software.
  • Good communication and technical writing skills.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to think critically.

Certificates, licenses, and/or Registrations Required:

  • Valid Driver's License
  • Ability to maintain required certifications
