Hybrid Role: Must be able to come on-site periodically and reside a commutable distance from the assigned work location.

Emergency Response: Yes - Must be available to perform a primary assignment in support of DTE's emergency response to storms or other events that impact service to our customers.

Job Summary
    Develops and delivers information products: maps, charts, reports and other exhibits. Develops and maintains work small-scale or workgroup-level geographic information systems (GIS) applications and databases, creating spatial analysis procedures and producing mapping products in response to business unit (BU) needs. Collects information from various databases; processes, reformats and provides accompanying analyses to decision-makers. Creates simple processes and scripts for use in importing data from multiple sources, or data collected in the field with a GPS; develops enhancements to existing GIS software; performs QA activities with regard to GIS data. Identifies, creates and uses GIS applications and data. May lead and direct the work of other GIS personnel. This is an individual contributor role.
Key Accountabilities
  • Utilizes ESRIs Geographic Information System techniques to provide a better understanding of certain variables in a given geographic location.
  • Uses Cartographic and Photogrammetric techniques to produce and provide maps and graphical representations of data.
  • Extracts data from GIS software and uses varying geographic analysis methods.
  • Recommends appropriate reactionary strategies in response to GIS analysis.
  • Able to apply technology while learning and pushing technical limits/finding new solutions.
  • Knowledgeable in GIS software and technology; works in conjunction with GIS technicians, planning and design groups, and the GIS Designers (mapping personnel).
  • Produces GIS database and CAD drawing designs, construction, and maintenance documents.
Minimum Education & Experience Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Geography, Cartography or related field of Geographic Information Systems, and 5+ years of experience in cartography, and editing GIS data
Other Qualifications
  • Competent in the use of ESRI GIS software including the ArcGIS platform, ArcGIS Server and ArcFM.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Microsoft Windows and MS Office software.
  • Strong knowledge of MS Access
  • Analytical and problemsolving skills consistent with the ability to identify key issues from a broad range of alternatives, and recommend optimal solutions for various situations.
  • A basic understanding of the concepts behind data management in a relational database and/or industry data model standards.
  • Familiar with a variety of field concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Strong development, Oracle or related RDBMS skills.
  • Knowledge of photogrammetry, including interpretation and manipulation of digital aerial and satellite imagery.
  • Knowledge of Michigan's geographic coordinates systems and able to interpret legal descriptions.
  • Proficient verbal, written and presentation skills; communicates clearly, with credibility and confidence.
  • Familiar with a variety of GIS concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Ability to implement and use geo-processing tools, GIS analysis and map production tools to support planning and management studies.
