We are seeking a highly motivated Environmental Planner to join Shannon & Wilson in our Seattle headquarters. Candidates should be experienced working in multi-disciplinary teams and managing complex projects in the Pacific Northwest. The candidate will have a deep understanding of the State Environmental Policy Act (SEPA), National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), and experience preparing environmental policy and planning documents for local, state, and federal agencies.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of projects, including preparing proposals and fee estimates; maintaining client communications; providing clear and concise technical writing; implementing Shannon & Wilson's quality control procedures; and managing project scope and budget.
  • Collect and research data necessary to develop SEPA and NEPA documentation, including Categorical Exclusions (CEs), SEPA Checklists, Environmental Assessments (EAs), and Environmental Impact Statements (EISs).
  • Manage large-scale EIS and EA documents with multiple subconsultants.
  • Engage directly with clients, teaming partners, and stakeholders as appropriate.
  • Attend client and company-sponsored meetings, events, and training, as necessary.
  • The candidate will play an active role in business development, client stewardship, and identify opportunities for strategic growth.
  • Follow Shannon & Wilson's Quality Assurance policy.
  • Follow and promote Shannon and Wilson's Health and Safety and Loss Prevention policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by your supervisor.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree or above in planning, ecology, natural resource economics, geography or another related field is preferred.
  • 7 - 14 years of experience in the Puget Sound region in the technical areas noted above.
  • Experience working as an environmental planner, land use planner, or similar in the Pacific Northwest region.
  • Experience developing and/or facilitating meaningful public engagement and scoping.
  • American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) or other relevant certification desirable.
  • Understanding and experience working with the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) desirable.
  • Experience with visual analysis and noise monitoring is desirable.
  • Experience working with demographic data, preparing Equity Worksheets, and performing equity, social, and environmental justice analyses is desirable.
  • Experience using ESRI ArcGIS to create, import/export, and managing spatial data desirable.
  • Excellent writing, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Personable, flexible, and professional demeanor.
  • A valid driver license and insurable driving record.
  • Frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending, lifting, and carrying 30+ pounds.
  • Working in all weather conditions, on uneven terrain.
  • The ability to travel (drive or fly) to field sites per project needs and job sites locally and out of state.

Level Placement

Typically, depending on an applicant's education, experience, other qualifications they possess, if they are a fit for the company and local office culture, and the current business needs, an Entry-Level Environmental Planner typically would be placed at a Shannon & Wilson Senior Professional I, II, III level.

Compensation:

Senior Professional: $90,000 - $110,000

Senior Professional II: $110,000 - $125,000

Senior Professional III: $120,000 - $135,000
