JOB SUMMARY The Employee Relations Manager works under minimal supervision. This position is responsible for leading the assigned employee relations team and providing oversight over the function and initiatives. It serves as the primary point of contact for employee relations escalations, issues, concerns and complaints. Healthcare experience is preferred. Candidates with experience working in a large company with 10,000 or more employees is strongly preferred. This position falls under a hybrid work schedule with 2 days remote / 3 days in office and as needed. EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION Required
- Education
Bachelor's Degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration, or related field.
- Experience
8 years of professional experience in one or more areas of human resource management, including at five years in assigned area. and 3 years supervisory experience
JOB DUTIES
- Counsels, advises, and works with managers, supervisors, Department Administrators, and various levels of
leadership to identify and resolve personnel issues and improve workforce performance and effectiveness. - Supervises and evaluates Employee Relations Consultants and administrative support staff in Employee
Relations and Support Division in the Office of Human Resources. - Reviews, edits, approves, and/or denies any disciplinary actions to be issued to department managers.
- Drafts disciplinary letters that accurately communicate, in a manner clearly understandable by a disciplined
employee, the factual information that forms the basis for the disciplinary action. - When requested, counsels employees on their roles and responsibilities as employees and other job-related
matters; the classified employee grievance and discipline policies and employee rights and responsibilities. - Be accessible to employees requesting to review their official personnel files.
- Serves as representative for UTSW in classified employee disciplinary appeal and unemployment
compensation appeal hearings by preparing the case for defense of the UTSW's position, including preparation of witnesses and written documents, and examining and cross-examining witnesses to ensure pertinent information is accurately and honestly presented to the hearing officials. - Conduct and manage through, timely and impartial investigations into workplace matters such as
harassment, discrimination, misconduct, and policy violations. - Manages HR policy development and revision processes to ensure all are relevant, up to date, and in line
with Federal and State of Texas legislation, Regents Rules, UT System policy and procedure, and the UT Southwestern Handbook of Operating Procedures. - Partners with Legal and Compliance teams to ensure adherence to employment laws, regulations and UTSW
policies. - Track and analyze employee relations productivity, trends, effectiveness and recommends proactive
strategies to address root causes. - Support change management initiatives, including reorganizations, workforce transitions, and culture
initiatives. - Develops, revises and presents training programs in cooperation with Talent Development in the Office of
Human Resources. Ensures training marterials are accurate and up to date. - Directs and/or collaborates on project management and/or other duties related to the roll out of Employee
Relations and/or Human Resources initiatives. Coordinates various projects and programs ensuring all tasks are completed by established deadlines and quality standards. - Maintains required information in the Employee Relations Oracle database by entering required information
on a daily basis. Ensures narrative information entered into the database conveys sufficient information so a reader can grasp a clear understanding of the facts of the action without having to resort to other documentation. - Serves in a supervisory capacity in absence of the Director of Human Resources.
- Attends university meetings/functions as determined by the Director of Human Resources.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
