Job Overview:

Assumes responsibility for obtaining all blood or non-blood specimens of patients seen in physician s office by venipuncture from the arm and, or micro collections from fingers in a variety of collection tubes or capillaries, some of which contain preservatives or anticoagulants, Prepares all specimens to be sent to appropriate laboratories and completes applicable paperwork, Assumes responsibility for recognizing situation that must be brought to the attention of the Office Manager or the Manager of Support Services of the Department of Pathology at Saint Barnabas Medical Center, Performs additional tasks as requested by the Manager of Support Service,

Qualifications:
Required:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Completion of a recognized phlebotomy course in Phlebotomy and/or Medical Assistant (or equivalent)

Preferred:

  • 2 years of Phlebotomy experience
  • Certification with an accredited Agency (such as: the American Society of Phlebotomy Technicians, Inc. and/or the National Phlebotomy Association (NPA).
  • BLS certification through American Heart Association only

Scheduling Requirements:

  • Per diem
  • Day Shift

Essential Functions:

  • Blood collection mobile phlebotomists need extensive experience with collecting patient blood samples and donations, including following medical safety procedures
  • Specimen storage and transport they have a solid grasp of processes and procedures for safely transporting and storing laboratory samples
  • Travel to Patient Locations - The main difference between mobile phlebotomists and those who work within a dedicated healthcare facility is that mobile phlebotomists travel directly to patient or client locations. This can include nursing homes or rehabilitation centers, as well as businesses and public spaces where specimen collection take place.
