Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Digital Dental Laboratory Technician within the Department of Restorative Dentistry at the Rutgers School of Dental Medicine ( RSDM).

The Digital Laboratory Technician will support Rutgers School of Dental Medicine's Digital Dentistry program, focusing on production and education. In this role , the Digital Laboratory Technician will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Georges E. Sara Digital Dentistry Center and other school laboratories related to digital dental workflow. Additionally , the Digital Laboratory Technician will also assist in developing digital dental curriculum and a sustainable model for the Center. This role also includes responsibility for equipment and purchase recommendations and maintenance; research functions; project proposal preparation; and the actual design and performance of complex research experiments. Moreover, this position would instruct employees and students on operation of laboratory equipment.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:

  • Serve as the working laboratory technician overseeing the daily tasks of the Georges E. Sara Digital Dentistry Center and other laboratories with digital equipment.
  • Provide training in the new dental technology and digital equipment.
  • Support the faculty with preparing instructional materials and programs for pre and post-doctoral students as well as with providing instructions of technical components of dental technology.
  • Participate in Rutgers School of Dental Medicine's continuing education programs by assisting with curriculum development of digital dental technology. Review cases with dental faculty, pre, and postdoctoral students for furthering educational purpose.
  • Design and fabricate surgical guides for residents at the school.
  • Follow the dental faculty, pre, and postdoctoral student provider's instructions via dental prescription(s) to produce dental restoration, fixed, and removable dental prostheses utilizing digital software and CAD/CAM technology. Ensure that dental cases are scanned, designed, and manufactured for patients with accuracy. Send digital files (STL) out to be manufactured from another laboratory as needed.
  • Ensure that the Georges E. Sara Digital Dentistry Center is prepared to receive and/or create digital scans for dental faculty, pre/postdoctoral students, and technicians without delay. Evaluate the quality of the scans and produce 3D printed casts as needed. Implement and maintain protocols for quality assurance and quality control of digitally fabricated prostheses. Participate in laboratory procedures related to the digital dental technology.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience

  • Associate's Degree and three (3) years of experience in digital technology.
  • In lieu of a degree combination of education and direct experience in digital dental technology totaling 2 years may be considered.
  • Previous experience working as a laboratory technician within a dental laboratory.

Certifications/Licenses

  • Must be skilled in the application of digital dental laboratory technology, specifically scanning, CAD/CAM design, 3D printing, and milling.
  • Computer proficient in Microsoft Office suite.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelors or Advanced degree in Dental Medicine or related fields.
  • Certificate in Dental Technology (CDT). Master's Degree in Dental Technician (MDT).
  • Experience in instructing and training students in dental programs, specifically in digital dental technology.

  • Ability to lift approximately 20 pounds, ability to stand for long periods of time.
