Howmet Fastening Systems (HFS) is seeking a Processing Technician Lead in our Torrance, CA location. HFS is a business unit of Howmet Aerospace, headquartered in Torrance, California. We hold the number one global position in aerospace fastening systems, and we're the North American leader in commercial transportation fasteners. Our high-tech, multi-material fastening systems are found nose to tail on aircraft and aerospace engines. Our products are also critical components of industrial gas turbines, automobiles, commercial transportation vehicles, and construction and industrial equipment.

Primary Purpose

Work with plating and heat treat equipment in an aerospace function. Lead has a combination of Operator and Lead responsibilities. Lead sees that Operators and trainees within the department are following specified procedures and instructing the trainees as needed.

Major Activities/Key Challenges

• Assign daily jobs to Operators within the department and see that they follow through.
• Required to maintain uniformity and high quality in the heat treating of metals within the department
• Delegate and shares responsibility based on evaluation of the specific task and the capabilities of the specific member of the department
• Responsible for seeing that furnace calibrations are regularly checked within the department and by authorized outside testing services
• Responsible for seeing that records are kept in the department to permit determination of the specific treatment received by a work order
• Responsible for seeing that all records are properly filled out as required
• Requires specific knowledge of general heat treat requirements for titanium, nickel-based alloys, and stainless steels.
• Use heat treat scheduling to ensure proper sequence for product through heat-treating cycles.
• Load and unload furnaces.
• Responsible for heat treat process, furnace accuracy, and uniformity surveys.
• Must be familiar with the operation, adjustment, and routine maintenance of all furnace controllers.
• Work with the computer to analyze the furnace charting program data being generated by each furnace.
• Work closely with Quality assurance and Engineering to review procedures, work instructions, and all documents and requirements necessary.
• Complete all required paperwork including, but not limited to, furnace maps, furnace charts, work orders and travelers, maintaining all required standards.
• Ability to work in an extreme hot environment.
• Perform general labor as required, be shift flexible, and work overtime as required

Physical Demands:

• Must be able to lift/move 30 lbs. (may not exceed per EHS policies)
• Must be able to stand for long periods of time

Knowledge/Skills:

• Mechanical aptitude and willingness to work on oily and noisy machinery.
• Knowledge of or experience in working with Screw Machines, Drillers, Tappers, and other manufacturing equipment, as well as troubleshooting the above-mentioned machines.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal relationship skills.
• Physically able to stand, bend, reach, stretch, and lift 15-35 pounds repetitively.
• Flexible, whatever it takes attitude.
• Detail oriented and has the ability to follow both oral and written directions, ability to work unsupervised.
• Excellent communication skills.

• Minimum 5 years' experience in plating and/or heat treat
