General Description:
HRL Laboratories is seeking a motivated early-career engineer to join our multidisciplinary research team focused on developing world-class semiconductor technologies for infrared sensing, advanced interconnect and quantum information science. This is a hands-on, lab-based role ideal for a recent graduate (B.S. or M.S.) with a strong foundation in cleanroom fabrication and a desire to grow within a collaborative, fast-paced R&D environment.

Essential Duties:
Work alongside senior engineers to support the fabrication and development of novel semiconductor devices
Troubleshoot process issues by gathering data using metrology tools such as AFM, profilometry, ellipsometry, and optical microscopy, and SEM
Assist in process development with various modules like - lithography, deposition, dry/wet etch, plating, etc.
Document and analyze experimental results and present findings to a technical team
Maintain cleanroom hygiene standards and follow safety protocols for handling hazardous materials and chemicals
Contribute to process improvements and experimental design in an evolving R&D setting
Required Skills:
Experienced in-or very familiar with-cleanroom fabrication processes including photolithography, deposition, etching (dry and wet), and thin film metrology
Comfortable with technical terminology and eager to work hands-on in a lab setting
Able to follow safety procedures and maintain focus at microscope and bench stations for extended periods
Must be able to work safely with and around hazardous materials, chemicals and gases
Dexterity in handling microelectronic chips and wafers is essential
Highly curious, detail-oriented, and motivated to learn across multiple disciplines
A proactive communicator and team player who enjoys solving complex technical problems
Must be able to work with little supervision and be a strong team player
1-3 years of hands-on microfabrication cleanroom experience (academic or industry) is preferred
Familiarity with process development and device fabrication workflows is preferred
Exposure to infrared sensing or quantum computing technologies is preferred
Experience with productivity tools (Excel, Words, PowerPoint) for data analysis and documentation is preferred
Required Education
A recent B.S. or M.S. graduate in Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry, or a related field
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to work within a class 10 Cleanroom
Must be sufficiently mobile to work within confined spaces and have both visual and hearing acuity
Special Requirements:
U.S. Citizenship
Ability to obtain and maintain a government security clearance is a plus
Compensation:
The base salary range for this full-time position $76,530 - $93,320 + bonus + benefits.
