Summary of Job Duties:PN faculty accept, first and foremost, the responsibility of maintaining high standards of quality nursing education. PN faculty members are members of the University faculty at large, with all the rights, freedoms, privileges, and responsibilities of every other faculty member. PN faculty are responsible for adhering to regulations in the University of Arkansas - Fort Smith Employee Handbook as well as those in the WATC Nursing Faculty Handbook. WATC PN faculty teach high school juniors and seniors and play a crucial role in bridging the gap between high school and college-level healthcare education. They provide students with hands-on, real-world knowledge of nursing, helping to foster both technical skills and compassionate patient care, while preparing them for the challenges of advanced healthcare education and the workforce. PN faculty report directly to the Executive Director of Allied Health and WATC-Health. Qualifications:

Education and Work Experience:

Minimum qualifications include:

  • Holds a current license as a registered nurse in the State of Arkansas.
  • Hold a minimum of an associate's degree in nursing.
  • Have experience in clinical nursing practice.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Experience in the development of instructional materials or willingness to learn.
  • Faculty must maintain current credentials in their field.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborates with peers and the Executive Director of Allied Health and WATC-Health about development, implementation, and evaluation of the curriculum.
  • Maintains high academic standards by adhering to standards established by the Arkansas State Board of Nursing.
  • Participates in didactic and clinical instruction as assigned by the Executive Director of Allied Health and WATC-Health (may assist in more than one course/program if needed).
  • Participates in academic counseling.
  • Attends and participates in meetings as scheduled by the Executive Director of Allied Health and WATC-Health and Dean of the College of Health, Education, and Human Sciences.
  • Adheres to course objectives and program outcomes in developing appropriate class content and objectives.
  • Participates in the faculty, student and program evaluation process.
  • Uses appropriate instructional resources to facilitate student progress toward meeting objectives
  • Assists in the development of standards for the admission, progression, and graduation of nursing students. Serves as a professional role model for the student.
  • Participates in recruitment and retention of students within the PN program.
  • Assumes responsibility for adhering to policies related to examinations and preparing test items.
  • Furnishes evidence of current CPR certification, immunizations, and TB skin test or chest x-ray on an annual basis. Completes agency required background and drug screening.
  • Maintains appropriate records regarding student evaluation and progress.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintains security and confidentiality of all records and examinations,
  • Maintains office hours for consultation.
  • Participates in the campus wide activities in ways that benefit UAFS, the College of Health, Education, and Human Sciences, and WATC PN program, faculty, and students.
  • Develops effective working relationships within the WATC PN program, UAFS, College of Health, Education, and Human Sciences, and the Fort Smith community.
  • Participates in professional and community activities for the purpose of bringing education, service, and research findings together for the improvement of health care.
  • Consistently participates in scholarly and/or service activities.
  • Maintains a hard copy or digital copy of all lecture material on file in the WATC PN program.
  • Promotes the goals, objectives and reputation of the WATC PN program with the College of Health, Education, and Human Sciences, UAFS, and community.
  • Participates in continuing education programs to remain current in practice.
  • Promotes cohesiveness between faculty and students within the WATC PN program.
  • Submits goals for the coming year by the UAFS submission deadline.
  • Adheres to the policy relating to team responsibilities and completes the team task checklist as appropriate.
  • Selects appropriate clients for student clinical experiences.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Responsible for maintaining a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner to foster teamwork and to provide leadership for subordinates.
  • Requires consistent on-time attendance.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Special Job Dimensions: Travel to and from clinical sites, abilities to include walking and standing up for up to twelve hours, bending, reaching, turning, listening, observation, and moderate to heavy lifting (max 50 lbs). Must be physically and emotionally able to complete all job requirements.
