This position will be located at the Air Force Research Laboratory, Materials and Manufacturing Directorate's Photonic Materials Branch, at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, Dayton, OH.

The program involves developing aircrew, sensor and structures protection to mitigate EMS battlefield hazards to ensure effective performance in contested environments. Technology development encompasses materials development and advanced filtering technologies across multiple wavelengths in the electromagnetic spectrum.

The ideal candidate will be able to design and implement the processes and procedures for a framework for closed-loop modeling and simulation of direct energy (DE) weapons, DE countermeasures, and their impact on mission success and survivability. M&S environments will include establishing Red Threat Patterns of Life (PoL), parametrization of surrogate Red DE Threats, behaviors, and effects as well as parametrization of threat countermeasures.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and coordinate dynamic teams to advance technology in EMS threat protection.

  • Develop parameters for generating imagery from parameterized sensors for use in training machine learning models

  • Create Digital Imaging and Remote Sensing Image Generation (DIRSIG) models offline and upload to AFRL HPCs to generate synthetic imagery data at-scale
  • Create Advanced Framework for Simulation, Integration & Modeling (AFSIM) models using parameters from both threats, blue force aircraft and countermeasures
  • Create mission-based execution to measure performance with and without countermeasures.

Requirements:

  • U.S. Citizenship and an active TS/SCI clearance
  • Master's degree in computer engineering (or a related field) with at least 4 years of relevant experience
