Job Summary

The GIS Specialist - Engineering Team at Lightpath is a critical resource in supporting the expansion and integrity of our fiber infrastructure. This role focuses on integrating and maintaining spatial data within the ESRI platform to support fiber design, engineering workflows, and operational planning. You will serve as the primary GIS lead for Engineering, responsible for ensuring the accurate import, maintenance, and visualization of key GIS data while coordinating with the Central GIS team for broader system development and governance.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as the Engineering teams GIS lead for all spatial data activities using the ESRI platform(ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, etc.).
  • Import and manage KMZ, SHP, and GDB files into native ESRI environments; ensure dataconsistency and format compliance.
  • Develop and maintain custom dashboards, widgets, and visualizations to support engineering,construction, and planning initiatives.
  • Coordinate closely with the Central GIS team to align platform standards, schema design, anddata governance.
  • Maintain and update spatial layers tied to OSP fiber design, splicing, permitting, and construction.
  • Assist in translating external CAD or contractor data into structured GIS data layers for operational use.
  • Ensure as-built data and field updates are reflected accurately in internal mapping systems.
  • Create documentation, SOPs, and field-use guides for GIS data collection and mobile access.
  • Perform periodic QA/QC checks on GIS data and conduct troubleshooting as needed.
  • Support the Engineering team with spatial analysis, fiber capacity mapping, and visual reporting.
  • Participate in occasional field verification or data capture efforts as needed.
Qualifications
  • 3+ years of GIS experience with a strong focus on the ESRI suite (ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online,ArcGIS Enterprise).
  • Experience with fiber network mapping and/or telecommunications infrastructure preferred.
  • Strong ability to import, convert, and maintain spatial datasets (KMZ, SHP, GDB).
  • Proficiency in creating custom dashboards, filters, and map-based reports.
  • Familiarity with outside plant (OSP) construction terminology and workflows.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 (Excel, Word, Teams).

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with IQGeo, Vetro, or similar fiber-specific GIS platforms.
  • Knowledge of CAD-to-GIS workflows and schema normalization.
  • Familiarity with Python, Arcade, or SQL for automating GIS tasks.
  • Previous experience in a remote work setting with self-directed task management.
  • Certifications such as GISP, ESRI Technical Certifications, or BICSI OSP are a plus.
