THE POSITION

The Department of Corrections (DOC), Scranton Community Corrections Center (CCC) is seeking dedicated Corrections Community Center Monitors to provide care, custody, control, and supervision of the reentrant population housed at the facility. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Corrections Community Center Monitor, you will ensure the safety and security of the CCC, document reentrant counts, search reentrant property, and control reentrant and visitor movement. You will observe reentrant behavior through one-on-one and group interactions, as well as through closed-circuit television (CCTV) systems. In addition, you will conduct new reentrant orientation, monitor reentrant community destination checks, and log telephone usage. Upon reentrant return to the CCC, you will administer and document breathalyzer tests and urinalysis tests. This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and establish positive working relationships with reentrants that support their successful release back into the community.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
  • Community Corrections Centers are staffed by three (3) work shifts that cover the facility 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Your schedule will be determined.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $40,268 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Additional Requirements:

  • Successful completion of the Department of Corrections Training Academy in Elizabethtown, PA required.
  • You must be willing and able to work in Scranton, Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania.
  • This position requires shift work. You must be willing and able to work different shifts or irregular scheduled hours.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Preferred Qualifications (not required):

  • Two (2) years of experience performing public safety or security work.(Examples of qualifying experience include, but are not limited to: public safety or security work involving protection of persons and/or property and maintaining required security through enforcement of rules, regulations and laws; public safety or security work in a correctional setting, juvenile or adult development/detention center, law enforcement entity, or military security experience)
  • One (1) year of work experience providing direction/guidance to individuals. (Examples of qualifying work experience include, but are not limited to: performing as a lead worker or supervisor assigning and evaluating work tasks, providing informal counseling, or giving orders in the Military).

  • You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
