STV is seeking an Environmental, Health and Safety Lead to support our water and wastewater group for a large-scale water distribution construction project. This position is designated as onsite (5 days week/in office) and will be located at our client site in Queens, NY. Job Responsibilities include
- Supervisory responsibilities include but are not limited to training and mentoring 3-6 health and safety inspectors by planning, assigning, delegating and directing work
- Maintain a SAFE jobsite, monitors safety and takes appropriate action to correct any safety issues or deficiencies and enforce proper use of PPE
- Oversee and interact with CM team and crews during daily work activities
- Provide safety orientations
- Ensures compliance with all JHAs and EHASP
- Monitors activities at multiple construction sites. Inspects construction sites daily
- Reviews job specific safety plans and JHAs
- Prepares accident reports for any incidents that occur
- Provides field management and oversight for the Contractor's disposal of hazardous waste, universal waste, hazardous materials, chemical and petroleum bulk storage, used oil, chemical and petroleum spill control plans, and lead/mercury/PCB and asbestos remediation management as required
- Completes incident reports and distributes and maintains files
- Will generate a daily report based on site activities
- Monitors all accidents and maintains appropriate paperwork and files pertaining to same. Gathers Monthly Safety Hours from staff for monthly reports.
- Maintains and conducts Safety audits
- Manage and prevent hazardous working conditions and unsafe employee activities through safety management and contact with field supervisory personnel
- Supervise and conduct safety training of staff at the project sites
- Document all accidents, safety violations, unsafe conditions/activities
- Accompany staff on walk through tours
Knowledge and Skills:
- Must be able to work independently, possess excellent leadership, communication, time management and computer skills
- Ability to work on significant and unique issues and projects requiring collaboration with multiple levels of staff
- Ability to coordinate among groups
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Must be able to communicate in meetings in a clear respectful manner and be well informed on the subject matter for which they are speaking to
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and use of proper PPE
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in a Health & Safety related program from an accredited institution
- 5 or more years' experience as a manager or supervisor of safety teams
- 10 or more years of heavy civil construction with a focus on water and wastewater projects and possess a working knowledge of federal, state and local regulations
- Experience in underground construction
- Current certification in first aid and CPR by the American Red Cross or its equivalent
- LOTO Training
- Confined Space Training
- RCRA Training
- 40-hr HAZWOPER
- OSHA 10-hour construction certification or 30-hour (preferred)
- OSHA 500 Outreach Trainer (preferred)
- Proficient with Microsoft Office applications
- Experience with computerized construction management software
- Valid Driver's License and reliable transportation
Compensation Range: $128,289.89 - $171,053.19
