Are you driven to protect your community and eager to launch a meaningful career in Fire Suppression? The City of Corona's Fire Department is seeking dedicated individuals to join this part-time entry-level work-training cadet program. This position offers hand-on experience in fire training, fire suppression, and emergency management. As a Fire Cadet, you'll work alongside seasoned professionals gaining invaluable skills and introduced to a wide variety of fire service experiences. This position will be eligible for future internal hiring processes.
Must work a minimum of 18 hours a week Monday - Friday. The department will accept up to the first 75 qualified applications.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The following duties are not intended to serve as a comprehensive list of duties performed by all employees in this classification; it is only a representative summary of some of the essential duties and responsibilities.
- Hazardous material inspection program support
- Fire suppression equipment support
- Interdepartmental deliveries, and administrative support
- Training facility maintenance
- Logistic support for training exercises
Knowledge & Education
- Graduation from high school or G.E.D. equivalent
Experience
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Candidates must possess a valid Class C California driver's license and the ability to maintain insurability.
- Applicants must be a U.S. Citizen or permanent Resident Alien meeting the
requirements of Government Code Section 1031 (A) and 1031.5.
In order to qualify for this position candidates must possess a
- Current CPR certification at the "professional rescuer" or "healthcare provider" level.
And one of the following categories:
- Successful completion of a California State Fire Marshal Accredited Firefighter I Academy or California State Firefighter 1 certificate.
AND
- Valid California State or National Registry Emergency Medical Technician License.
OR
- Possession of a valid Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic Certificate.
OR
- Current or former Fire Explorer, any department (Proof must be provided in writing by the fire department or explore advisor on department letterhead).
AND
- Valid California State or National Registry Emergency Medical Technician License

This position is FLSA Non-Exempt, eligible for overtime compensation.

The eligibility list established from this recruitment may also be used to fill the current and/or additional vacancies throughout the City. The successful candidate will be required to undergo a reference / background check including livescan and pass a pre-employment medical examination (which will include a drug/alcohol screening).

THE ORGANIZATION
The City of Corona is a General Law city operating under a Council-Manager form of government. Policy making and legislative authority is vested in the City Council, consisting of a Mayor and four Council Members. Members of the City Council are elected by District to a four-year term. The Mayor is selected by the Council and serves as the presiding officer for one year.The City is organized into the following departments/organizational units: Community Services, City Manager's Office, Economic Development, Finance, Fire, Human Resources, Information Technology, Legal and Risk Management, Police, Planning & Development, Public Works, and Utilities. Oversight of these departments is divided between the City Manager and an Assistant City Manager.
The City's total operating budget for Fiscal Year 2025 is $ 399.1 million with a General Fund operating budget of $ 209.6 million. Corona enjoys a workforce of 922 dedicated employees who provide high quality services to its residents and visitors each day.
