The Lead Solution Architect plays a critical leadership role in shaping and evolving the IT systems landscape for Insurance Markets in the U.S. market. This role will focus on modernizing a Guidewire-centric application ecosystem and the integrated downstream platforms that support Finance, Regulatory Reporting, Data, and Business Integrations.

Operating within a transformation-focused team, this leader will drive strategic architecture decisions aligned with business outcomes, helping transition the current application-server-based landscape to a modular, service-oriented architecture with CI/CD pipelines and automated delivery.

Core Responsibilities - Architecture

  • Partner with business stakeholders to align technology solutions with U.S.-based Personal Lines P&C insurance goals and regulatory needs.
  • Define and evolve the architecture vision for a Guidewire-based environment, with emphasis on modular design, decoupling, and service-based integration patterns.
  • Lead solution designs that support key insurance capabilities including policy, billing, claims, underwriting, and customer servicing, as well as downstream systems like finance, regulatory, and data platforms.
  • Ensure architectural consistency, scalability, and security across systems, guiding implementation from concept through delivery.
  • Champion and implement patterns supporting a shift from monolithic application servers to distributed modular components with CI/CD integration.
  • Create and maintain architectural standards, target state diagrams, and guiding principles that support strategic modernization goals.
  • Provide architectural oversight and design governance for solution implementations, with a focus on reusability, performance, and compliance.
  • Collaborate with enterprise architects and domain specialists to ensure platform coherence, including cloud readiness and observability frameworks.
  • Presents to Business partners in a way that describes clear understanding of the business requirements and covey/propose technology solutions
  • Often deals with cross-domain challenges, ensuring different components work together as a cohesive system

Core Responsibilities - Business and Technology Alignment

  • Translate complex business problems and regulatory needs into practical, sustainable technology solutions, specifically in the U.S. P&C Personal Lines insurance context.
  • Act as the bridge between non-technical stakeholders and engineering teams, ensuring mutual understanding and alignment.
  • Provide architectural leadership across multiple disciplines, including Guidewire platform capabilities, integration architecture (API, ETL, messaging), financial systems, data warehousing, and regulatory technology (regtech).
  • Partner with delivery and DevOps teams to embed architecture best practices into the full delivery lifecycle, supporting agile delivery and automation.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (Master's preferred).
  • 10+ years of IT experience, with strong architecture leadership in U.S. Property & Casualty insurance, specifically Personal Lines.
  • Extensive hands-on experience with Guidewire InsuranceSuite (PolicyCenter, BillingCenter, ClaimCenter) including configuration, integration, and data architecture.
  • Proven ability to architect and modernize downstream ecosystems including:
  • Finance and billing/reporting integrations
  • Regulatory data extracts and compliance tooling
  • Data pipelines and analytics solutions
  • Familiarity with U.S. insurance regulatory environments (NAIC, DOI, ISO standards).
  • Deep experience with integration strategies - REST APIs, event-driven architecture, batch processing, and middleware technologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to architect for cloud-native deployment, CI/CD pipelines, containerization (e.g., Docker/Kubernetes), and service mesh.
  • Strong leadership and mentoring capabilities, fostering architectural excellence across solution and platform teams.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to present to senior business and technology leaders.
  • Experience with Agile methodologies, iterative delivery, and DevSecOps best practices.
  • The ability to foster collaboration and teamwork among cross-functional teams, breaking down silos and encouraging knowledge sharing.
  • Thought leadership - able to monitor market trends and to guide creative thinking on future technology capabilities which will help increase the business value of Munich Re
  • A willingness to mentor and coach junior architects and team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement
