GENERAL PURPOSE:
The City of Winter Park's Sustainability Program is seeking to hire a part-time intern to assist staff with conducting research and development of programs, guidelines, and practices related to sustainability planning and policy. The intern will support the City of Winter Park's Sustainability Manager and Specialist to assist the city in achieving its sustainability goals defined in the Sustainability Action Plan as it relates to Waste Diversion, Mobility & Urban Form, Local Food, Community Engagement & Green Economy, Natural Resources, Buildings & Energy and Local Government Operations.
This paid internship requires a minimum of at least one semester (~4 months).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Assist in the monitoring, development and implementation of the city's Sustainability Action Plan
Attend appropriate city meetings, including the Keep Winter Park Beautiful & Sustainable Advisory Board
Coordinate and attend community outreach, volunteer and educational events related to sustainability
Conduct research and development of policies, projects and programs outlined in Sustainability Action Plan
Work with other community organizations and partners to develop outreach and communication
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Ability to collect, organize and analyze information, perform research and operate a personal computer. (Microsoft Office-Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Knowledge of the principles, methods, and practices of sustainable development, traditional town planning, transportation and land use

Typical Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
The candidate must be currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in fields such as Environmental Studies, Urban Planning, Public Administration, Business Administration, Economics, Biology, or other closely related field. Prior work experience on issues related to sustainability preferred.
CERTIFICATIONS, TRAINING, SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possess and maintain a valid State of Florida Driver's License, Class E or higher.
Note:All certifications must be current at the time of application and must be maintained as a condition of continued employment

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Physical
This is light work requiring the exertion of 0 - 20 pounds of force occasionally and 0 - 10 pounds of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, and reposition objects.
Ability to traverse about an ADA accessible office setting, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Ability to remain stationary at a keyboard for extended periods of time and continuously operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and printer.
Ability to manipulate objects and demonstrate small, precise movements repetitively.
Environmental
Tasks are regularly performed in an office setting without frequent exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
Sensory
Tasks require the manipulation of objects and demonstration of small, precise movements, the ability to detect and distinguish various features of one's surroundings, and the ability to effectively communicate and exchange information with others.
