Position Purpose

Our tutors (Science Learning Center) provide assistance to students by helping with lecture or lab materials, as well as help with study methods, or technology needed to complete course related material. Tutors may also assist with answering general questions about the college, providing assistance and guidance to college services. This tutor position will be focusing on supporting students in general chemistry, organic chemistry, biochemistry, and lab report writing.

Location of Work: Tutoring will take place primarily in person at Stark State Akron campus (Akron, Ohio), there is a potential of working in Canton (Main Campus), as needed (substitute tutoring).

Hours of Work: Flexible during outlined times for the Science Learning Center (SLC).
SLC is open Monday through Thursday 10am to 7pm.

Hourly Pay Range: $14.96/hour to $20.19/hour

Typical duties include:
*Tutor students in general chemistry, organic chemistry, biochemistry, and lab report writing.
*Assist with experimental design, data analysis, and scientific writing.
*Use interactive methods to enhance understanding and retention.
*Collaborate with faculty and fellow Learning Coaches to develop tailored resources and workshops to support student learning.

To be considered you'll need:
A bachelor's degree in chemistry, biochemistry or closely related field is required.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous tutoring experience is desired but not required.
  • Comfortable with both in-person and online instruction platforms.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to creating a welcoming and supportive learning environment.
