Job Summary

The Sustainability Operations Director will be responsible for leading and advancing the company's sustainability agenda. The Director will drive initiatives that impact the company's operations and culture across Ingersoll Rand's expansive network, which includes approximately 320 locations spread over nine unique business units, to fulfill the company's environmental targets set for 2030 and 2050. Reporting to the Vice President of Sustainability and EHS, this key role is responsible for aligning the company's environmental strategies with its broader business objectives in a financially responsible manner. Furthermore, the Director of Sustainability will oversee the company's adherence to environmental regulations concerning air, water, and waste management. This role involves tracking and enforcement of compliance with all environmental legislation and permits, performing environmental audits, and developing strategies for reducing the company's risk.

Responsibilities


  • Execute Ingersoll Rand's Operational Sustainability strategy.


  • Manage the weekly IDM meeting with businesses and meet regularly with individual site leaders and/or site GreenX Teams as needed, helping the businesses implement sound and cost- effective projects for energy, water, and waste solutions.


  • Work with and influence key stakeholders across the businesses in order to develop action plans and track progress against sustainability objectives.


  • Evaluate the existing site-specific Green Excellence (GreenX) Program, make adjustments, and continue working collaboratively with the businesses to identify technical solutions and achieve their annual energy, water, and waste goals.


  • Complete a comprehensive sustainability evaluation by business unit of all sites globally to align with the sustainability targets.


  • Develop easy-to-use processes to assist the businesses in evaluating environmental capital projects globally.


  • Design and deliver influential sustainability training to the businesses with emphasis on developing the company culture to achieve Ingersoll Rand's ambitious mid and long-term sustainability goals.


  • Capture and write progress stories for publication and/or communication internally and externally.


  • Manage the company's climate transition plan in partnership with a third party.


  • Monitor environmental regulations and ensure the company's operations are in compliance.


  • Conduct regular environmental audits and inspections to identify potential areas of non-compliance and recommend corrective actions.


  • Support new acquisitions with a step-by-step process for environmental compliance, reporting, and successful sustainability integration. Assist sites in their response to environmental incidents and emergencies, coordinating with external agencies as necessary and reviewing incident investigations.


  • Partner with Sourcing and Product Management to improve packaging and supplier take back programs to minimize incoming and outgoing packaging.


  • Develop a process to audit environmental compliance for air emissions, wastewater, stormwater, and waste.





Basic Qualifications


  • 10+ years of relevant experience

  • Master's or Bachelor's degree in related field

  • Strong project management, strategic planning, and organizational skills

  • Deep knowledge of sustainability program development and execution

  • Substantial working expertise in the following areas: GHG inventory accounting and verification, decarbonization strategy, climate transition, renewable energy, environmental law, and environmental reporting.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop strategies and gain senior leadership support for enterprise level environmental programs

  • Ability to work effectively with people at all levels through establishing positive, mutually respectful and productive working relationships

  • Excellent written and oral business communication skills and strong attention to detail

  • Strong facilitation, network building and influencing abilities and aptitude to grow and maintain relationships with key stakeholders

  • Travel internationally and domestically 30-40%
