Department Information The Georgia Tech Athletic Associate (GTAA) sponsors varsity intercollegiate athletics competition in 17 NCAA Division I sports for the Georgia Institute of Technology. We are a proud member of the Atlantic Coast Conference. Steeped in history and success while embracing strategic innovation, our programs compete at the highest level and strive for national championships. Job Summary
To provide specialized psychological and performance enhancement services to student athletes. This individual will provide consultation and relevant training to coaches, athletic trainers and other athletic department staff. In addition, provide guidance and participation in AOD and ADHD services along with the coordination of referrals outside of our system. Responsible for setting employee goals, assessing performance, providing feedback, and making pay recommendations. This position will interact on a consistent basis with: Student athletes, parents, department personnel, physicians, faculty, deans, residence life staff, on/off counseling services, and other services when appropriate to provide quality care. This position typically will advise and counsel: Student athletes, sport Coaches, athletic trainers, and athletic department staff. This position will supervise: and/or assigned staff.
Responsibilities
Job Duty 1 - Conduct evaluations and provide therapy to student athletics in individual and group settings. Provide crisis management, triage and walk-in emergency services. Maintain appropriate clinical records.
Job Duty 2 - Provide performance and mental skills training services to individual student athletes, teams and coaches.
Job Duty 3 - Provide psycho-educational programs related to mental health and wellness for student athletes and other members of athletic department.
Job Duty 4 - Consult with parents, department personnel, physicians, faculty, deans, residence life staff, on and off campus counseling services and other individuals when appropriate in order to provide quality care.
Job Duty 5 - Consult and collaborate closely with Sports Medicine Staff.
Job Duty 6 - Attend and participate in clinical CARE team meetings and other staff meetings as requested.
Job Duty 7 - Supervise mental health treatment, prevention and education programs. Supervise and participate in trainee, in-training experiences. Job Duty 8 - Comply with NCAA, Conference and Institutional rules and regulations.
Job Duty 9 - Perform other duties as assigned Job Duty 10 - Establish contracts and supervise clinical services provided to student-athletes
Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements Doctorate in Counseling or Clinical Psychology from an APA-accredited program or equivalent combination of education and experience
Other Required Qualifications College counseling setting experience or similar/equivalent experience working within an interdisciplinary setting. Candidates must possess a Georgia Psychology Licensure or be eligible to obtain it and must secure such licensure within one year from their hire date.
Required Experience Three to five years job related experience
Preferred Qualifications
Additional Preferred Qualifications Certification as a Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC) through the Association for Applied Sports Psychology. Interest/Experience with eating disorders and AOP assessment and treatment. Demonstrated competency in multicultural counseling.
Preferred Experience Two years of experience working with student-athlete population in a Division I athletic department; Specialized post-doctoral training in sport psychology
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
KNOWLEDGE Advanced knowledge of theory and research in social, historical, cultural and developmental foundations of sport psychology. Issues and techniques of sport specific psychological assessment and mental skills training for performance enhancement and participation satisfaction. Biobehavioral bases of sport and exercise (e.g., exercise physiology, motor learning, sports medicine). Specific knowledge of training science and technical requirements of sport and competition, National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) rules, International Olympic Committee (IOC), etc, Clinical and counseling issues with athletes. Organizational and systemic aspects of sport consulting. Developmental and social issues related to sport participation.
SKILLS Experience providing counseling services within a counseling center setting, and providing and development outreach programming. Advanced cognitive and behavioral skills training for performance enhancement. Advanced skills in counseling and clinical interventions. Advanced skills in consultation and training. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
